Gas fouled plugs from sitting???

Is this possible?

So 2 month old gas + maybe a battery that wasnt doing its best = fouled the plugs

Ive never had this happen, have had 7 or 8 bikes carb and FI and sometimes dont get around to winterizing right away. But none have had troubles like this.

I put the battery on the tender, then checked the voltage with and without load...both fine. (well load voltage was around 10v, which is the lower end of things i suppose)

so now its just starter wine, no turn overs or anything. No bump start either.

Initially the first startup after 2 months was a couple put puts, then nothing and just starter wine. So thats why i assumed it was battery.

Plugs are 6000km new (iridium)

So form what I "read" on google the gas can foul the plugs if the battery is not sending the required volts and old gas certainly doesnt help the cause...

Any thoughts?

Sounds similar to what happened to my FI CBR250RA when the batt was low last fall (didn't ride for a few weeks) -- Started, ran for 5 seconds then died. Charged battery fully, and just starter whine. Luckily in my case bump starting worked and it's run fine since, but maybe that was just because I didn't let the gas sit so long beforehand.

Out of interest as well, what gas did you put in 2 months ago, and did you dump stabilizer in as well?

premium gas, prob shell or petro 91 and no stabalizer.

ill be checking the plugs tonight, i have replacement plugs just incase. but would rather not have to use them cause im cheap :)

it just kills me that plugs can be fouled by old gas and a weak battery hah (i have a sweet low end battery in there, its mopar or something lol)
correct me if im wrong, or please explain why this is

A weak spark that isn't strong enough to fire the plugs but fuel is going in all the time that the engine is turning over means that the plugs get wet literally and stop firing altogether. On older carburretted bikes with a kickstarter the fix was to hold the throttle wide open and a few good kicks would blow the excess fuel out and then she would start. Not sure if the same applies to FI bikes but until you get the battery up and a good spark you are out of luck. Good news is that the plugs are fine and just need to dry off.

IMO you haven't really established that you have a healthy battery. What's the resting voltage? After a starting attempt, what's the voltage immediately afterwards?

Umm, its pretty obvious that you got a weak battery if it cant even turn over the bike....

hook up a car battery, with the car off and see if she starts cranking.

Once you get it started just to be sure check your voltage at idle and 5000 rpm.

trying to start the bike with the tender hooked up will kill the tender due to amp draw, pull a spark plug cap and install a good spark plug and ground it to the engine to check for spark.

Dude, you gotta be more specific...

Is it cranking? If it is cranking, is it cranking fast?

You cant blame "spark" if there isnt enough rotational inertia and RPM to time the spark ignition with the cylinder movement.

no go, tried jumping. no dice

so i figure its either not getting spark (god knows why), or the starter motor connection to the engine is a problem

any ideas?

my money is on the stator.I also have a z and just replaced mine last year

A faulty stator would not charge the battery, but a fully charged battery will still start the bike and run it until it can no longer sustain coil spark or provide power to the ECU, this is how Total Loss systems work on race bikes.

:confused:Well,I had what sounds like the same issue last year with my bike and as I said a new stator fixed the problem.I can't say it any other way. This isn't a game of jeopardy or a case of who's right or wrong, this is my experience with the same bike.I'm offering my experience in an effort to help out, take it or leave it

no crank, battery is definitely fine
im going to check spark this weekend.

in terms of stator, i always though it would crank at least. but its worth a try
was your bike cranking at least? or just starter wine and no crank?

Would a stator go at such low km? 17500 k

thank you

Maybe your starter is stuck, happened on my vfr. Took it apart, sprayed it down with contact cleaner. After it dried and was reinstalled, problem fixed :)
