Garmin GPS

I tried searching around but couldn't find anything.

I am looking for a Garmin GPS that I can plot my routes and then go for a ride. I know there is the Zumo for that, but unfortunately I think that is way too expensive.

I've went to their website, but there is nothing that describes this feature. Does anybody know what this feature is called??

Thanks

I believe 'custom routes' is what you are looking for.

What I do is that I plot waypoints on a map, and have garmin create a custom route based on those waypoints.

Interesting.

I wonder if my Nuvi can do that?

which nuvi

Nuvi 250.

Everytime I try to plot a route, it just offer the waypoints as favourites. I have to manually click to each point to get thru the route, plus its hard for me to tell which point is 1st or last.

Are you using the MapSource software?

Yeh, I've tried that. I've also tried using Google, where u can export to the GPS. Not very helpful

had a nuvi 255 for a day. Found out it couldn't route. You can only do waypoints! Using my android for now. If I had to go and get one... I'd get the garmin montana.

ok, i had a look at my GPS specs, and it looks like you need a GPS has allows for "Routes".

For example, my Nuvi 550 allows for up to 10 routes.

Hope this helps.

on my nuvi 295w i can plan routes on mapsource then port them over, its easy

Do they still make the 295? If not, what other newer models can do the same thing with Mapsource?

You need to have a Garmin where you can click on "tools" and if you have an icon that says "data" then yes you can download routes.
The 755 and 765 series have this feature.
They are not made anymore but are still readilly available on E bay and Amazon.
One of the new models has this feature, Im not sure but I think its the Nuvi 1450 and 1390

I got my brand new 295 from newegg.ca, tigerdirect also had them.

Just took a look at their sites, no longer stocked :(

I guess I will have to swing by some stores to check out some demos

Auto-routing.

Look for a Garmin 60Cx for a baseline unit. It's discontinued, but such widespread use that you'll find lots and lots of support for it, and at around $199.00 or less, you'd have a unit that is much better at navigating than some of the Zumo's or Nuvi's.

Even an eTrex Vista is a great unit that took me deep into the states and to the East Coast many times, the 60Cx was a recent upgrade for me. They're great handheld, waterproof, battery operated units that adapt very well to life on the bike.

I rode out to PEI with a Nuvi 265W.

Have a look for the "Trackback" feature and route customization.
