FYI: Cheap frame sliders

I was looking around this site, and their frame sliders are on sale

http://www.kapscomoto.com/frame-sliders-c683/

Just thought I would pass along the find.

Edit: Apparently there is a lot of stuff on sale for really good prices...

Don't cheap out on sliders. If one of those bolts snaps off in your engine/frame, you are going to be pretty ******.

Spend the little extra and get tried and tested sliders that won't do more harm then good.

you get what you pay for. That being said, this hobby isn't cheap. You can find DOT Certified helmets for $100, would i buy one? hell's no! Cheapo frame sliders might save your bike falling in your drive way, but at speed.... don't count on them holding up.

DOT certification is a joke. Use Snell as a minimum.

Nothing interesting there for me and my bike. :(

does a $1000 helmet protect the head better than a $100 one when both are DOT certified?

Definitely. Most $1k helmets are also snell approved which is a higher rating. Plus there's a lot to be said for quality. Good helmets don't come cheap. I'm sure arai, and bell have done more testing and research then some canadian tire brand. You can get a shorty helmet that is dot certified but would I wear one? Hell's no.

I spent alot of time reading on frame sliders for my gixxer600 and to sum up here is what i found (maybe save you guys some time)

No Cut - Easy to install however when the s**t hits the fan apparently it can bend the frame (from one guys experience (street rider)). no cut is recommended if you're trying to save time/cashmonies but only use on street. Don't even bother if your going to the track.

Cut - not hard to install but it takes time and effort, these screw into the frame and CAN save the frame and have a better chance of saving the plastics also. Both street and track riders recommended these. **However** some companies you have a to cut a pretty large hole to fit the puck (2" for woodcraft but i didn't mind that)

Sum up: Don't buy cheap frame sliders unless its your only option. I ended up going with woodcraft frame sliders and i cut a 2" in the plastic but i think it looks great and i got the street pucks (which are thicker and longer than track pucks).

Ummm my $150 HJC helmet is snell certified and will protect my head the same as an $800 helmet. And my hjc fit and finish is great. People are paying for the brand name Arai, Sumony..etc. Or maybe at high speed there is a 5 decibal wind noise difference inside your expensive helmet, but to me its not worth the coin. I would rather spend that extra money on other gear like leather pants, jacket etc.

Wind noise, airflow, weight and comfort are the main factors to an expensive helmet. Safety is in there somewhere as well. Again, just because it passes Snell doesn't make it as safe as possible.

Just FYI, the decibel scale isn't linear. a 5dB difference is over double, and almost three times the noise level.

are there some secret protective device inside expensive helmets that we aren't aware of? cheaper snell or expensive snell. snell is snell.

Yes, but there is nothing stopping helmet manufactures from producing helmets that exceed the Snell standard.

go do some reading about how different resins, fibres (carbon, kevlar, glass, etc), plastics, weave patterns, and so on all affect pressure/force dispersion.

Does shoei and arai exceed snell.. Or is there another reason or I mean personal opinion as to why its more?

By the way your helmet is snell 2005..there's snell 2010 out... Is your helmet now unsafe?

My helmet is still safe. But depending on manufacture date, I may need a new one in a few years.

It's still safe, but it could be safer if it was Snell 2010.

This.

Well actually it has been proven that a Snell 2005 helmet can transfer more force to the head than a cheap DOT helmet in certain cases. I will stick to ECE.

AH! That's the other certification I was forgetting. ECE.

by way of a test that is highly unlikely to ever happen (if youre going by the motorcyclist article).
