Future Shop stores closed across Canada!

In a slightly different note.. my hard drive crashed on me. Looking for advice into getting a new one. It was a 1.5 TB harddrive that came with my acer comp. Will go ssd if I can find a decent price. If not ill get a hdd. Is there anythjng I should look for in particular. Would probs get 1.5 TB or bigge

Good luck finding a 1.5tb ssd that wont make you faint with price. Everyone runs 80 or so gb ssd for operating system and 1+ tb secondary drive for storage.

I run a 256 ssd then store all larger items on a NAS. I think 256 is a nice sweet spot.
The only problem with ssd is you wonder how you got along without it!

Not necessarily... you can get a 500GB SSD for under $200 these days. Crucial MX100 and BX100 are getting close to "cheap" .... there's some new drive that just hit the market that does even better $ per GB but I can't for the life of me remember the name

So if I were to get one of those 500 gb ones can I put another hhd for additional storage

Sure. Just crack open your computer first and make sure that you have physical room for another drive, & connections. You very likely do, but I know the day will come when somebody cuts that final corner. You are probably gonna need another SATA data cable (smaller of the two cables that are connected to the drives), it probably won't be included with either of the drives you buy. They're pretty cheap though (like $5 or less)

Thanks alot. Will be looking into this tomorrow

Their "futureshop exclusives" a lot of gimmick. For the most part is was the same. All that will be history now.

They weren't exclusives, other competitors had them, just not bestbuy.

Such as what? I always saw the same thing in both flyers. Only difference was, for example; one had tv brand abc, other had xyz. Both same features, both same manufacturer.

Sorry, should have quoted post #30

Meh. Who didn't see it coming? Some of the stores are close enough to Best Buy locations that it just made no sense. Couple that with the pushy commissioned salespeople and it was never gonna work out. That was the point of the buyout from day one.
I worked for them in 2007 and even then I saw it coming, it made no sense to have competing stores so close to each other, we would price match best buy and beat by 10% and they would price match us... nuts

There are some great people working there at stores but the culture passed down from Home office is terrible, they just cared about sales and would extremely over work their employees... like 6 days work weeks for all December, I worked from 7am to 10pm for a full month with no days off for a store opening etc... Pushy sales techniques from sales people were due to extremely high pressure hourly from Distric Managers etc.

Not complaining as I chose to work there but I also chose to leave for the same reason.

Good thing was..if one had a sale and was sold out..id literally go across eglinton to the other and buy it there

I've actually spent a lot of money at Future Shop in the past few years. They tend to carry (slightly) higher end stuff than Best Buy does, but yes, the extended warranty stuff is BS. Also, I wonder what will now happen to people that bought extended warranties and their stuff craps out.

Their press release said it will be taken care off at Best Buy stores.

Best Buy has stated they will honour anything Future Shop has sold.

Certain computers and electronics. Like @roasted said, future shop have a few slightly higher end items. So stuff that staples might have for a higher end computer future shop would have it and best buy would not
