I've only really had good experiences on Kijiji. Most recent one went better than expected.
I was looking to purchase a rowing machine, found one in Toronto for $40. Messaged the guy asking if I give him $50 if he could meet me closer to the 400 Hwy, he said he couldn't but if I drove down he'd give it to me for $30.
If he wasn't going to take the $50 and meet I was all for driving down town and paying him $40, so it just worked out even better in my favour.

I think its a game some people play - Email sellers immediately after posting. I always reply that its long gone and they have to be a lot faster. They were never serious buyers anyways

So I feel like a thief or something having to prove my innocence in the Court of law apparently . I have a deal today where some guy wants me to go to some video game store his friend owns to see if my xbox is working/stolen/ etc.
This guy is really paranoid... I recorded a time stamped video of me showing that the xbox is working and everything. Still wants me to send him pictures of the xbox, serial code (which I refused because of scams) etc.
It gets to the point where this guys got my number, full name, email address, university, and year and he still thinks that I would sell him a broken or stolen xbox with all my information given out.
Somethings fishy about this deal. Hopefully I'm not the next kijiji murder.

Probably just someone who got burned so he's being super overcautious. If he's terrible at reading people it'll be just as hard for him to see you're honest as it was for him to see that the last guy (or whoever it was) was a cheat.
Really, if it's too much trouble just walk away. It's not like the market for XBoxes is limited to one or two guys.

my rule of thumb is first one to my door with cash takes it. I make this very clear.

I had my HF folding trailer up for sale this fall, complete with plywood, wheel choke, spare tire, spare tire carrier and 10 forged eyebolts. Overall, spent more than $700 on parts, taxes and all, plus the countless hours to run for parts and put it all together. The kit itself is only USD300 but that is just the tip of the iceberg, so asked for $450 and was willing to sell it for $400.
One day I got a message noting that the kit is $300 at HF with the 20% discount is $240 and considering that my trailer is used, how much? I replied asking if he were to buy the trailer from me, how much would I still owe him? Never heard from him.

I really hated it when once I agreed to pay the asking price and since the guy was busy, I told him to call me at any time and I would pick up the item. He sold it for $20 more.
I can understand a lot of questions. These days people list items as "mint" that is actually garbage condition. Selling my civic was a terrible experience for example. No one could believe me on the phone that my ball joints were not falling out.

Few years ago I was selling my F150, after a whole bunch of lowballin tire kickers I had some mother/son combo asking to see it. They had me drive out to their place, then had the neighbour "mechanic" look at it and test drive it. They came back complaining about random garbage and said they would buy it IF I safetied it + fixed the BS complaints.
I told them, sure Ill safety it if you give me a deposit, that way if you dont take it at least Im not out of pocket. They out right refused to give me a deposit, I said ok, I'll safety it but its first come first serve then(the mom tried to tell me it would be rude if I sold it to someone else, but I told her cash talks and she hadnt given me any).
About a week later I get the truck fixed up and Im getting calls about my truck all day long (updated ad to say it was ready to roll, safety + etest). Called the woman back to say it was ready, she got all excited and said to me that should would have her "mechanic" do a final inspection before handing over the money(and all i could think of was that this could be her easy way to back out of the deal). Then soon as I hang up, some guy called, asked a few questions about the truck and said he was on his way with cash in hand. Called the woman an hour later to tell her the truck was sold.
I was literally laughing about it all the way to the bank!

Some buyers don't realize you don't owe them ****.
At the end of the day my philosophy is whoever has the money gets my sale.
And apparently you can sympathize with me because you ended up giving the truck to another guy who was a little more quick to the trigger.
Had a guy listing a bike a friend wanted to see. It was a 3.5 hour drive each way. I said I wanted to meet at his place about 5 pm, he said it would prefer later evening. Really dude you want me to drive to your place to arrive at 8:30 at night so I can then look over bike and IF we took it then load it and drive back starting at 9 pm!!
We tried to arrange 4 different times to accommodate. Then I heard nothing for 2 days so I emailed using a different email asking if bike was still available. He replied yep.
