Full Body MRI Scans

So ever since my dad passed away at 83 almost a year ago from bowel cancer that came out of the blue I've wondered about how to get an MRI myself to possibly nip anything lurking inside me before it's too late, as it was for him - an MRI in Emergency is what caught it.

It turns out that there are now private clinics that do exactly that but it's not cheap. Prices range on what you want looked at but a full body scan is $3,250 at this one clinic with offices in Mississauga & Ajax. Screening Scan Pricing - Whole Body Mri

If you want some extra special attention to the reproductive side of things, it's an additional $3k (seems exorbitant).

I'm 60 and eat well & exercise but it's on my radar for perhaps when I get to 70 I'm thinking but that's open to sooner.

Has anyone here done this or heard from people who have?

My riding buddy also got an MRI for his gall bladder blockage.

They found a cyst on his liver as well as some dark markings on his femur which might be bone cancer - related to his current prostate cancer diagnosis. Doctors say the marks may be nothing, and the cyst may be non-malignant, but these are things that would never have been discovered if not for the MRI.

MRIs can be useful for initial discovery, but conclusive results will probably require additional testing, like biopsies, to confirm the findings.

68 years of excellent health and now suddenly everything's breaking down on him. I told him he should gave gotten the extended warranty...

Crossing my fingers for him.

Have you checked prices in other country’s?

Get a doctor's referral and wait 6 months.
They don't like to hand them out just like that. Without a real concern at least.
Buffalo for an MRI is apparently what a lot of folks do .

You can get an appointment pretty much next day and you go back home with the results.
Prices vary (of course) but a head was $500 several years ago.

There is a clinic in downtown Toronto that can do a bunch of testing on you and pretty much tell you what is wrong now and what may be wrong in the future.
I don't know what it costs as I only heard about this from a friend.
Apparently a lot of company executives get their regular testing done at this place.

I asked my Dr about getting a full MRI based on dad's situation and as oioioi said, they won't without a valid concern. As an example, I'm scheduled for a lower back MRI later this month due to chronic lower back issues back to when I was a teenager that I finally said "we need to look at this!" and she was ok with that. It was about a 6 month wait and appt is at 4 am.

The thought never occurred to check the USA or other countries - good idea.

Have you contacted MedPoint? I hear they're ads all the time. I think they're in London though.

From my experience, they will ONLY do the area that is on the requisition. Not even an inch to the left or right.

That's interesting
You'd think early detection would be a valid concern, since they always mention that, and you have family history.
My dr always get's me appointments without too much pressure, wonder if you can ask someone else?

My Dr. definitely leans towards using OHIP resources efficiently from my experience with her.

Just researched on their website and it's tough to find out what they exactly do but I couldn't see anything for MRI's and that's the gold standard for looking inside your body.

Might be worth a call. Their ads sound like that would be part of their deep dive.

I suppose it's worth mentioning that I get annual abdominal MRIs (paid for in full by OHIP) due to health issues. There was an older unit at Toronto Western that was REALLY cramped - speaking as someone who at the time was pretty underweight, it seems like it was more suited to small animals. I'm not sure if they've replaced it or not, I haven't been directed to Western for an MRI in years.

I'm not claustrophobic but it stresses me out a little to not be able to focus my eyes on anything since the MRI tunnel is generally featureless. It would be nice if there were words, a pattern, or a dumb simple picture I could train my eyes on
