Free Used-Oil Pickup

For those of you who don't know, the City of Toronto (not GTA) picks up your used oil for for free if you have between 10-50L of oil. I just keep my used oil in the garage until there is no place to put it or it starts getting in the way and then I use this service.

To use this service go to: Toronto Waste Pick-Up

Choose "Household hazardous waste".
You fill out the forms and they will give you a date to leave the oil out for pickup. No need to deliver your used oil anywhere.

hmm is there any way for them to pick up from a condo? I don't do my changes here (obviously), but I'm not sure if they have the same service in Durham Region (where my parents live/have access to a garage & do my oil changes)

I think in Durham you have to drop it off at the haz mat depot in north oshawa .. but would be great if they picked up. I m collecting close to 35 litres of oil in the garage along with 10 litres of antifreeze.

peel you just take it to the recycling plant and drop it off, also free.
I go to the one on Chrysler drive, next to the Chrysler plant.

Thank you very much for the link! Oil was beginning to pile up in my driveway.

it would be nice ift hey picked up in brampton, i'm lazy i got about 30litres laying around.

Crappy Tire has always allowed me to drop off my old oil with them. A lot of people do it based on the old jugs often lying in the corner, plus it saves CTC a lot of money on oil for their customers :D

That's essentially what I have been doing, but I always feel 'bad' about just dumping it in the corner. I'll have to keep the hazmat place (and/or chrysler place) in mind.

Cool service but I don't like having dirty oil around. I don't know if I want to be saving up 10l of oil.

Lol do they do multiple pickups?

Yes it's free at the dump in Oshawa (ritson/north of Taunton) you just have to dump the stuff they charge for first and then just the oil/tire drop after. Wish I knew this years ago.

I spoke to my local Canadian Tire store manager and he informed me that it is quite legal it is part of their being green allowing folks to drop off used oil and filters.

Just neatly leave the items in their designated areas.

The facility at 395 Chrysler Dr in Brampton is intended for Region of Peel residents only. You are sometimes required to show ID when dropping off oil to prove your residency.

Interesting, I've only ever had to show ID when going through the scale.

I just leave it outside CT after business hours.

whaddya guise do with the filters?

I toss it with all my scrap metal and take it to a scrap metal yard once a year or so. That also gives it time to drain out the oil very thoroughly.

Last time I dropped off oil at ct they told me there is a 4L. max

Nice, thanks for this! I've been procrastinating on hauling all my used oil to CT and now I don't have to. Procrastination worked in my favour for once :D

I was told that they take 'reasonable' amounts... In other words, 4-5l jugs, not 50l drums. The rule is there to eliminate shops from dumping large amounts onto CT. You can leave multiple containers though.
