I've been down at least seven times, however, each time was at less than a walking pace.

This is what i did between my last post

This what happens when i'm bored, cant sleep and someone decided to send me an e-mail to top it off...

. This might help reserve some rooms.

some road trip figures... total road trip would be lets say 6500 kms

calculation # 1 Bike 600cc ( 15 liter tank)
my bike gets 300km to a tank and costs 17 bucks to fill-up. I would need 22 fill-ups costing $347 dollars in gas. and it would probably take 9 days assuming i drive 8 hours a day add hit no traffic. would need to drive both ways so $700 both ways.
6500/300=22
22 x 17= 347

calculation # 2 chevy impala 6.7-liters, per 100km claimed(80 liters gas tank.)
6500km / 100 = 65 trips at using 6.7 liters
65 x 6.7 liters = 435.5 liters
435.5 liters times the price of gas at a 1.20 = $523 times 2 trips = $1045.2 in gas. probably less since gas is cheaper in the states. now assuming I do 1700 kms per day like when I picked up my bike from Indiana. it would take 4 days assuming I sleep in the van like I did waiting for the border customs to open in the morning. whole trip done in 23 hours flat.

looks faster than the bike plus 5 people can fit.

calculation # 3 ford econoline E-350 13.4L/ 100 km claimed. (125 liter gas tank)
6500 / 100 = 65 trips using 13.5 liters
65 x 13.5 = 877.5 liters of gas one way. 1755 liters off gas both ways. At $1.2 per liter estimated cost would be $2100.
now these vans carry anywhere from 8 to 15 people depending on what you have so this makes even more economical.

calculation # 4
even a minivan would seem reasonable being slightly more thirsty than a sedan.
7.9 L/100KM (36 MPG) HWY* Dodge caravan.
65 x 7.9 = 513 liters times $1.2 dollars = 616 times 2 trips is $1232 both ways estimated.

now for a van rental that is a different story if it is even possible.

the cheapest I have rented a van is for 500 dollars a month for A 10 year old GMC Safari van seating 7 people. but I had to pay a 500 dollar security deposit which they hold for 90 business days.

looks like a grand total with rental cost of $1700 dollars to drive there by your self. A flight would be cheaper in this case.

$1700 divided by 7 people however would be $250 in gas both ways. then you add your food and hotels if you stopped somewhere for showers. $125 all of a sudden does make sense per person for a group if they are crazy enough to go on an adventure like this.

If snow birds can drive south for the winter why cant a bunch of crazy college kids drive a car.

Think of all the crazy things you will come across. I just thought I would throw this out there for all people telling the bride and groom they cant afford to be there because they are bums and don't have jobs.

I also noticed that you will also be crossing 7 borders. how many people have been to 7 countries in a week? Don't loose your passport. bring photocopies.
