Fortnine

Has anyone had any negative experiences with them in a helmet purchase?
yes, they wouldnt let me return an uncomfortable 700$ shoei helmet, one would think an online retailer would be more sympathetic to fitment issues, lesson learned.

For something as personal as a helmet, better off visiting a local retailer or dealer.
On the other hand, order as much chain lube as you like on fortnine, that has nothing to do with fitment.

You rode in it with tags removed?

I bought one the other day at the GP bikes no tax event. I wore it around the store for over 30 minutes. No hot spots, glasses fit, so I bought it.
They gave me a 3 day money back, unless it was used riding.
I'd never spend large on a helmet I've never had on my head.

Most vendors have the same helmet policy. You must leave all of the labels and stickers attached or it can't be returned. If you're in the store or at home wear it for 15 - 30 minutes or so to ensure it fits. Unless you're getting a killer deal, I'd just buy it in person vs. doing an online purchase.

We bought a helmet online for my wife from a Euro retailer, but it turned out to be too tight. Too expensive to send back for refund + restocking fee, so we compressed the liner by squeezing in some wood blocks and books inside the helmet over a few days and the fitment is now perfect.

YMMV.

Also, depending on the manufacturer or helmet, you may also be able to buy smaller/larger cheekpads to better fit the width of your face. The crown liner is a different story though. Not seen many replacement crown liners that aren't specific to the size of the shell, and they don't seem to vary in thickness much.

While we're on the subject of tight fit, does anyone know of a way to stretch boots ?
They fit fine except the width in the toe box is a touch too narrow.
Years ago you could buy shoe 'trees' to do this, but I haven't seen anything recently.

Not sure about stretching the boots but you could make more room in the boots themselves.
Take out the insole entirely, replace with thinner insoles or cut or shave area of the insole that's uncomfortable.
I shaved and cut a small area of the insole in my sidi mag 1 boots. My left pinky toe is much better off.
You might see a "shoe tree" at second hand store.

Take it to a local cobbler and see if they can stretch it out with one of those screw type wooden foot things (no idea what they're called. Likely shoe tree as stated above).

Gracias amigo, I will check it out.

Take it to a local cobbler and ........................

Hope you can find a good one. I used to use a Moneysworth at a local mall. Good work, but terrible at meeting deadlines. Multiple dates when boots to be ready, but delay, delay, delay.

Old joke.

Guy's dad dies and he is cleaning out his apartment after the funeral. Finds a cobbler ticket dated 50 years ago in the pocket of an old suit. Wonders if the cobbler is still there and goes looking for an address a few streets away. Finds an ancient looking shop, goes in and there is an old guy behind the counter. He explains why he is there, gives the old man the ticket and he disappears into a back room. 5 minutes later he comes out and says" Yeah, I found them, they'll be ready Wednesday".

Used Coakleys in London to resole a pair of dress shoes, really good work.

Good retailer... I think they have probably the best website for any purchases... pretty much got my entire starter gear from them.. shoes, helmet, jacket, gloves...

their return process is also great.. ordered an exhaust from them and didnt' fit.. they just ask me to submit photos to show them that's its not be installed then took back and within 1-2 days of reciept gave me refund back....

A lot of things to rave about with them... customer service is great.. if u give them your phone number.. when you call, the rep will already know who you are....return process is great...

Only things I think they can improve on... I think they are the only one that doesn't do no GST sales? WOuld love to see if they can do it...
Website, while its good to others, sometimes, its still hard to use... for example... for Shoes.. there are no filter by size and in stock... often times you have click to a shoe that is right price but not in your size or in stock.. vice versa...

and love to see the filter search have some granularity with ECE/DOT/FIM/Snell safety as far as helmets goes... 22.06 is out and for the life of me... I can't use the search bar to see which helmet they carry has the ECE 22.06 standard...

but all in all still the best retailer in Canada..

When I was looking for new hear I also used revzilla.com for research purposes.

Their site is also really good and they have a an in-depth video review of almost every product on their site.

My purchase and refund experience with F9 has also been great.

I sent out a Revit jacket (2 season model ) for replacement under warranty as initially suggested by their CSR, and ordered its replacement that I would get a refund for. I got a call a few weeks later that my jacket was repaired and ready to be shipped back. I had already ordered its replacement as they initially suggested, along with some other gear as it was around black Friday (Pants and a 3 season jacket).

They checked their notes and said, although their initial instructions by their CSR were wrong, they would stand by them and honor the new replacement instead of a repair. (Jacket was supposed to be assessed and repaired if possible, instead of replaced)

Since I preferred the 3 season jacket, I asked if they would take back the new 2 season replacement and honor its value/credit towards the 3 season one. They agreed.
AND, since my 2 season jacket had already been used for 1 season and even though it was now repaired, I knew they would not be able to sell it as no one would want a used jacket from a retailer. I wanted the option to have just a summer jacket so I offered to by it back for half price, They also agreed.

I feel like it was a good process and I was happy. I'm thinking they were satisfied as well.

Good. I wouldn't want to buy a helmet from any business that would take returns on helmets.

I used to sell a lot of ICON helmets on my site like 10 years ago. I made it very clear you could return the jackets and gloves, no problem, but helmets? No way. Nope nope nope.

If someone's trusting me that I'm selling them a never compromised helmet, I need to look out for that motorcyclist and live up to their expectation. You can't honestly do that if you're taking returns on lids.
