Both of those are causing issues for us here. The Calabogie fire is apparently out of control and they are evacuating places. Not sure what the Quebec fires are like but it’s just weird here. One minute it looks like a thunderstorm is coming and the sky goes orange, right now the sun is trying to shine through. Disgusting smell in the air. I had some outdoor plans for the next few days but I might need to reevaluate. A ride north was on the cards but maybe not right now. I kind of like not wheezing on the bike.At the parry sound cottage you could smell the smoke from Quebec , maybe also the Calabogie fire. It’s going to be quite a summer .

Morons are everywhere. I suspect more will be set by stupidity (eg cigarettes out the window, campfire, dirt bike without spark arrestor, etc) than by people intentionally wanting a forest fire. I am sure some will be idiots that want a huge fire. With so many fires burning, the chance of a prompt and thorough investigation leading to charges is very low.I know it’s been dry AF here in SW Ontario for 3 weeks now, but any truth to the rumours of some of these fires, and the ones out west being set deliberately? I can’t even imagine what would drive a person to do such a thing.

At least NS increased fines to something high enough to matter. Giving someone a hundred dollar ticket does nothing to correct their behaviour or make them consider the fine in their decision making process. In a fire ban, fines need to start at five figures and go up rapidly for repeat offenders or exceptionally dumb ideas (eg explosive baby gender reveal).Yup, I expect it is simply a lapse in judgement or straight out stupidity that are causing these. As stated above if they were intentional we'll never know... But will we see a crackdown in public parks and campgrounds in regards to open fires?
And this is why we need higher fines for almost everything (and ideally geared to income imo). Fines now are meaningless values and cost an order of magnitude (or two or three) more to administer than they recover.“But, but…cars no longer come with ash trays, officer! Where else should I throw my cigarette butt?”

For those who have never seen how rich the tar sand are in Alberta, this is an example
