Foggy Helmet

Anyone know of a way from stopping your helmet from fogging up while you ride in the cold at night time? Having to open up my visor at every red light, gets old fast.

I just open mine a tiny bit like 1/4"-1/2".

+1 for the foggy

I just spray mine before I ride - works fine. Lifting it open just a crack works well too!

Pinlock baby!
Bonus points awarded when you use it while snowblowing during a storm?!

I was fogging up yesterday so opened it just a crack. I was riding along the lakeshore in Clarington and within two minutes went through a cloud of small flies. Rode with only one eye open for about 30 seconds after that until I could get pulled over and my helmet off!

I laughed about it, but think I should also get a foggy or pin-lock.

1. Anti-fog shields (Best option imo) soft plastic layer that goes over the visor and don't fog up
2. Double shield anti-fog inserts (Couldn't find for my helmet)
3. Buy spray bottle stuff that lasts longer and is easier to apply than the dish soap
4. A perforated fog mask (I found uncomfortable)
5. You can use dish soap before going out, using a tiny bit rubbed on the inside then lightly wiped o
6. Spit on it (its annoying and messy but if youre on the highway and cant see **** its better than nothing.)

I have the Fog City insert. Wore it all winter up until now. -25 I think is the coldest I've had it, and there was only minor fogging....until i started to breathe heavy and opened my visor, and then it froze over..but other than that, it has worked very well.

Rub a tiny dot of shaving cream on it and then polish it.Really! A pinlock is the total solution, but it's not free.:)

All good suggestions but the most reliable method (short of a heated shield) is a double pane shield if you can find one for your helmet. I bought one for a HJC a few years back for $20. The only downside is that they usually don't look as nice as a normal face shield but it will depend on the manufacturer.

I find a simple, easy and cheap solution is a balaclava. Cost 10-15 bucks and almost stops any fogging up completely plus it gives the added warmth on the neck.

The honey bread cake? Are you messing with us? o.o

I tie a bandana over my mouth and it covers neck. $1.25 at Dollarama... Not a Harley dude either, so it's not for looks.

Best bang for your buck, just crack open your visor or open it when stopped. Fog disappears instantly. If your vents are open, it shouldn't fog at all while moving. My helmet came with a breath guard but it still fogged so I looked at the pin lock.

Since I wear sun glasses, the pinlock insert can distort your vision when you use both at the same time. You can buy tinted pin lock inserts or remove the anti-fog insert when wearing sun glasses though. Thing is, the more you remove/ switch the inserts out, the more you wear out the seal that stops the fog. The package also said that using an insert past a certain time of day (dusk and night) in a long list of US states is illegal. This could have just been related to my Shoei pin lock but I'm not sure. It just seemed inconvenient overall.

Breath box. Many helmets come with them. I never knew what it was (two of mine came with them) until someone mentioned it on here. Been using it all season and even with the visor down at stop lights and not moving the helmet doesn't fog. Prior to using it my visor would fog up all the time, even when open a bit.

Never use anything on the visor and even at 0C while stopped I have no problem.

Pinlock. There is no other way. Only time I got a wee bit of fog with the pinlock is when it's *really* cold, and I just get a spot right at the bottom in the centre, though that could just be my pinlock not seating right.
