Flip-up Helmets

I've got the system 6. Its awesome. Quiet, lightweight, love the inner tinted visor, never had it fog. Super happy with it and the sizing is the best I've had. Only downside with flip ups is if you want a comm unit. Most clip on the bottom right were the helmet flips. Makes it pretty much impossible unless you do some frankenwiring.

Look up "Sharktooth" for shark evoline helmets. It looks pretty nice.

Does anyone know a dealer in the GTA who carries the evoline series 2 or 3? I know most dealers can order them but I need to try one on and play around with the moving parts. I tried this helmet on at the Dec. show at the Yamaha booth, but it was a rushed experience...

Wonder why not? Michael Schumacher wears a flip-up when he races:

I prefer open face and really enjoy my Bell Mag8 3/4 but here in Australia I found out my old 3/4 Bell which I brought along for use on the KLR would not be allowed by the cops and rather than face a $160 fine I opted for a convertible at $220.

Grabbed a Tour Tech convertible to get legal and keep GF happy.
Had not tried a convertible and it's easy enough to flip up. Heavy but also pretty quiet...

Full flip up works easily with gloves as does the shield. Well designed for internal electronics.

The Tour-Tech fl ip-up helmet combines the advantages of an open-face lid with the protection of a full-face design.
Constructed with a polycarbonate shell, it has a single-action dual-locking chinbar, seven air vents, a removable and washable
Coolmax interior lining, an anti-scratch clear visor that requires no tools for removal, and space in the cheekpad for an intercom/phone headset.
Easy to get on and off like an open face and I can chat with people around town. Might bring it home - not sure yet.
Took it on a long ride yesterday and even tho heavy am very pleased. Was easy to flip up with gloved fingers both the full front and the shield. 10 hours of riding and comfortable - good indicator for a new helmet.

It's an Australia only but indication from the dealer that it is a Shoei rebrand.
Designed for electronics but one would have to use a boom mic for say a Scala to make it work.

Aside from the fact I'm not fond of closed face - ( too many years of wearing a Bell Star ) - I use binocs and camera all the time riding and being able to just flip the front piece up is good.

Since I'm doing some adventure riding on less than sterling surfaces here being able to convert to having a chin guard has some advantages.

Not certain whether I would get one for riding in Ontario as I'm pleased with the Bell Mag-8 system and the price point.

Schumacher may wear a shuberth, but it's a full face helmet, not a flip up (in that case, it's the SR1: http://www.schuberth.com/en/motorcycle/sr1.html).

I ordered the Nolan N104 this past weekend, quite excited for it.

As to the track day question, most trackday's follow the FIM rules, which requires a SNELL certified helmet (http://www.pannonsports.com/adv/fim/GP_Tech_en.pdf). You can't use a DOT certified full face unless it also meets SNELL or ECE 22-05.

Snell doesn't test flip ups, but not because they're not safe: (http://www.smf.org/helmetfaq#aWhyNotFlip).

Interestingly, the N104 meets ECE 22-05 as a full face helmet, as does the Schuberth C3, you could easily argue that it should be allowed on the track.

Found them at GP Bikes. Series 2.

Shark Evoline. As far as I know it's the only flip up with all metal chinabr locking system, and it's the only flip up that passes Snell and DOT with the chinbar in the up position as well.

Schuberth and the BMW System helmets (also made by Schuberth, I believe) both have metal locking hardware.

NO, let me repeat that NO helmet that doesn't have a chinbar in place is capable of passing the Snell testing. If the chinbar is "up" then it is incapable of being tested for chinbar strength, which is a part of the Snell testing procedure.

The Schuberth and System 6 helmets have a comm system option. Unfortunately it's rather pricey.
