Yep. This is the big risk. Have read lots of horror stories of people planning vacations only to have an outbound flight cancelled and rebooked for a week later, the day they were booked to come home. It’s a low budget carrier, like swoop , flights get canceled .
I flew with the near-identical Swoop a couple times to Abbotsford out of Hamilton, . Both flights were fine, not dissimilar to a typical WestJet flight.
My flight for fort Mac in December was through hopper and flying west jet is 800 and changeBooked on expedia, YYZ into Ft Mac for $468 + taxes on west jet. I'd rather do AC but they dont have the times I want. That's for mid Dec.
I've had good luck with Google Flights, as it's easy to find the cheapest connections within a range of dates, as well as choosing a variety of airports (Hamilton and Pearson, for example). Skyscanner was useful once upon a time when I flew a lot for work, but haven't used them in ages...My flight for fort Mac in December was through hopper and flying west jet is 800 and change
Westjet were running some promo flights a few years back when I was looking for flights to the UK. The price looked great but after I added a bag and chose my seat etc then it turned out to be more costly with less flexibility than a number of other flights.
It's also the crazy taxes they tack on above the published fare.
My latest flight with Swoop:
$90.00 published fare
$2.95 Air Passenger Protection Regulation Surcharge
$7.00 Nav Canada Surcharge
$7.12 Air Travellers Security Charge (ATSC)
$25.00 Airport Improvement Fee (AIF)
$7.20 GST
$50 in taxes on a $90 flight! DF?!?!
The AIF is imposed by the the airport at their whim, too. For a long time, Pearson had the highest in the world, not sure if that's still the case...To be fair, all those extra charges are imposed by gov't/regulatory bodies... The airline sees none of if land in their pocket.
