Fishing!

I’ll be on holiday in late June and booked a day salmon and trout fishing . Wife says if I actually land a fish over 5lbs it will only be worth about $200 a pound and I probably wont be able to keep it anyway , that’s fishing . Gal is not wrong lol .

I uses to go salmon fishing a bunch on lake Ontario. One year I was leading the great salmon hunt for a short period of time. We tried to cook one. Hard no. Even in the bbq it was smoky and gross. Didn't even try to eat it based on the smell and oil pouring out of it.

Going out for lake trout in a few weeks. Probably my dad's last time in a boat as he's getting older.

About 5-6 yrs ago one of the guys I work with won a Toyota In the salmon hunt for biggest fish of the week, his son won a Toyota the next wk. Son is a pro guide on Lake Ont. I have never salmon fished on Lake Ont despite having had a boat on the lake for ever. Maybe I should go trolling rather than drift around aimlessly.

I recall sitting off the mouth of the Credit with giant salmon performing aerial feats all around....and nary a bite...I might have done better with a tennis racket...sigh.

Just got back from Onaping Lake. Five days of off the grid heaven.B used a cool little under the rod spincast reel to catch a couple of smallmouths and nice pickerel. Yum! Caught it with a crayfish crankbait.I caught lots of smallies with wormharnessess trolled behind a tiny inflatable with a little Min-Kota. Average was about 12".A few up to 15". Fun with ultralight 5' rod and 4lb line. Tried my fly rod on the down side of the 1946 dam at the end of Turcotte Bay 1km from camp, hoping for brook trout. Just found at ton of 6" smallies. Caught a few hammer handles as well. Cool listening to the birds. Do it do it do it do it.lol.

We were in Alaska back in late June , I will absolutely go back there to fish . Some of the rivers look no fun with rods elbow to elbow , but there was a lot of fish to go around . Further inland where the rivers shallow the bears keep the fisherman away , that was cool .

I like fishing Northern Ontario. Clean fish, trophy sizes are possible on any given day, good species selection.

This year I’ve bagged pike, walleye, sturgeon, sauger, mooneye, brook and a few lakers. Ive bagged an Auroras the last few years, hoping for another on my fall trip.

Not much bass fishing, but if you want a day fighting - I’ve had days where my arms hurt from hauling in trophy pike. Last weekend I bagged 3 good size sturgeon fishing from shore in Downtown Timmins.

I really like Northern Ontario whether fishing or just sitting in a boat . The Canadian Shield is sacred ground for me .
Next Friday is near North , parry sound / muskoka border for bass and maybe pike . I don’t actually care if we catch anything , I’m just so happy to be going .

Near north and far north are beautiful right now. I spent last week in Porcupine, long warm days, cool nights. We took ATV trails deep into the bush -- no more bugs than I get in my backyard in Markham.

If you like peace and quiet -- it's everywhere. Go 5 minutes down a logging road and it feels like you're in the middle of nowhere.

My 7 year old has started asking about fishing. So glad I bought him that children's rod a year ago which was destroyed within a week.

Time to look into some fishing spots nearby.
