frame sliders did there part so there no damage to the FRAME.
They are not called fairing sliders.

How did it tip over with no-one near it?

ROFL!

That sucks man, but happens EVERY year! Give the shoei a good look over for cracks, but don't think it's garbage! From arai "Unless you had a watermellon in it when you dropped it, it's 100% ok..." lol. If your head is not in it when it falls, and the shell is not damaged, the helmet is A-OK =)

Use extra caution, make sure the kickstand is fully forward, not on the balance point. If parking on hill/angle make sure the bike is pointing uphill and in gear, so the stand won't fold on you. Keep something like a little piece of plywood or crushed pop can in the trunk to use as a parking puck when parking on soft surfaces (including hot ashfault!).

The hot pavement advice is definitely something to remember once it gets warmer out, had a mint bike fall over 2 years ago from the kickstand melting into the pavement.

Sorry to hear about the bike in the garage though!

I'm not trying to be rude, but bikes don't fall over for no reason.

Make sure you have the side stand fully extended when you park it. Make sure you don't park it facing downhill, it may roll forward off the side stand.

Jamie pretty much summed it up, all id add is that ive developed a habit of kicking the stand lightly with the inside of my foot my foot (to make sure the stand has swung down as far as it can go) any time im about to get off the bike. Its a good habit.

Ive noticed over the years that some people will sit on bikes, and when they stand them up the bike will rock forward a bit & the stand will rotate slightly out of its locked position, then theyll forgot to check the stand when they get off, and down she goes...

Watch where your salesman is looking next time you sit on a bike at a dealer lol

wingboy / ric made me edit my post.

Probably just as ppl noted. The kickstand wasn't fullly locked forward.

And, i guess you just served as an example for yourself and others, not to hang helmets on the bike at all if you like your jewellery looking good..

sorry to hear about the tipover

i usually give a tug to the bike from the rear just so i know that the kickstand is as far forward as it can go and that the bike is leaning on it

Doesn't it feel better to let it all out on GTAM? How about clicking the shifter into first gear when you park, that way your bike won't roll off the stand.

there wouldn't be any frame damage w/o the sliders in that situation.......most people buy them to protect plastics

on a side note, placing your helmets anywhere on your bike when parked isnt the greatest idea. i've seen many helmets dropped after they were hung by the chinbar on the handlebars, or simply placed on the seat/bars&windscreen. if you really want to hang it, use the helmet hooks that most bikes have under the passenger seat.

Yep.
Once I lock my bike, I grab the handle bar and just give the bike a quick pull backwards to make sure the stand is as extended as it will go.
My garage and driveway are level so I don't worry too much, but when I park on a road that isn't level, I take a moment to think it all through and figure out the best way to position the bike in order to have gravity on my team.

Guess those Pures really don't have any side grip....J/k

That sucks though but it happenns to everyone. Make sure you put the side stand down properly and not on an incline as others said. It's really weird it just fell over on its own.

No one has mentioned yet, so I guess I will. After you have put it in gear, roll the bike in the downhill direction (be it forward or back) until the slack in the chain (or driveline lash of a shaftie) tightens up. If it is windy make sure you park so wind is coming from your right. I never leave my helmet on the seat or a mirror.

Sorry to hear, but if you didn't get a faceshield scratch right where you have to look, then it could have been worse and you got at least a little lucky. Glass half full and all that..

ive never had my bike belly flop off its kickstand.

but yea, a ****** way to learn... but i guarantee you'll remember to check kickstand every time you leave the bike now. and leave it in first when parking, reduces the chances of rolling around.

If it protects the fairings, why should anybody care?

Sal buddy I don't feel bad for you. Look at what happened to me! First day out with new bike, slow right turn lowside due to oil slick.

Where was this oil slick? Would be nice if you shared so other could avoid it.
