First Ride On The Streets Ever

It was a blast being on the road rather then booting around on side streets. No issues with cars, no one tailgated. Great weather. The bonus' All types of people give attention from kids to hot chicks to old folks. Bikers all give the peace sign haha. Feels amazing to be on 2 wheels. Im addicted.
Need some help on some newbie mistakes.

Filled up fuel in the Ninja 250 but the gas trigger kept stopping thinking its full ? Ended up with 3/4 tank and spilling some fuel on the tank lol, dammit
Hit about 120 today on the service road, it was really windy and when trying to shoulder check in the wind was very hard. Come with practice I assume ?
Put my insurance and paperwork under the passenger tail. Stopped by a friends and when I took the rear seat off it made its way almost under the seat! Got it out tho when I got home.
Sometimes my shifts arent great, can I mess up the clutch with bad shifts ?
Noticed lots of vibration at higher speeds, common ?
Forgot to mention. I didnt bring water. Did I ever regret that. Need a mesh strap thing to hold a bottle down atleast

Congrats on the ride!!
When fuelling, after the first click pull the nozzle out a little bit and slowly squeeze. You'll see the fuel in the tank rising. Just be careful. As for gas on the tank - wash it off or it could damage your paint.
When I pull the nozzle out of my tank I turn it up 180 degrees towards the sky and put my open palm underneath.

Don't worry about the wind at speed or messy shifts. It'll all work itself out with practice and learning those things is half the fun.

Good luck and keep at it.

Don't put the nozzle all the way in. (That's what she said) I put the end of the nozzle just inside the filler neck and squeeze the trigger about 1/4 way.
Turn your head down & back so the wind hits the helmet at an angle instead of directly to the side.
Yeah, don't put it there.
Yes you can. Just go to a parking lot & practice.
Vibration is normal when you're pushing a small engine.

Congratulations on your first ride. Heck, I still mess up some shifts even today....Don't confuse normal vibration with a speed wobble.

Thanks for the tips. Also if I were to ride to the gym or wherever in sweats. Is it safe to keep your phone and wallet inbetween the cluster and windshield ?

no, if your going to the gym, just put it in your backpack

i assume when you go to the gym, you bring a towel, headphones and water/gatorade bottle, so your gonna need to bring a back pack anyways.

p.s. dont lift on your motorcycle gloves, looks super ghey

..and what if your were to have an "unplanned dismount"?

Best to carry a mall back pack...

congrats on your first street ride!....take it easy and ride safe.

btw, you want to 'wedge' something as important as your phone and wallet, and think it'd be secure? ...use your noodle man!:)

don't do it.

Tank bag if you can get away without a backpack, that way you don't feel as constrained. Or just buy a bottle of water at the gas station.

Also make sure after working out, playing sports, etc. to take a break and catch your breath before getting on your bike. Have been dead tired from tennis and had to move my bike in a hurry down a steep driveway and dropped my bike (gently tho).

Buy yourself a small bag/pouch in order to keep those docs safely in the trunk - mine currently has insurance & registration, some ear plugs, tyre pressure gauge, steel cable (that I use to lock my jacket to the bike), parking 'puck' and the bikes' manual. I got it at Wally world for $10 or so. The gf used to use an old/cheap small purse in her bike.

Top tip when filling up -- grab a paper towel or two. I use this to hold against the end of the nozzle when inserting and removing it from the tank, and to 'cup' the nozzle a little while filling to catch any overspray. Can't remember where I originally read it it or who showed me.

This is obviously from your experience as a male dancer

Thanks for the help. Day 2 went out for a short ride. Shifting cleaned up a lot. Didnt want to run a yellow and I had some speed and accidentally locked up the rear tire. Didnt even notice until the screech. My neck is sore too lol

Ninja 250? Pretty upright, I guess it might be posture though..

Does your helmet fit right? Not too big?
Yup a 250. I think my helmet is the proper size... The soreness did subdue quite a bit when I came home after a 25min ride

You're probably just getting used to having the extra strain from steadying your head in the relative wind. Don't sweat the little stuff and enjoy the ride.

+1 to that, the overspray is always the issue.
