First Ride - 2020

@Mad Mike
Wow - that's awesome!
Which route did you take down there?

Cheers,

Rob
I took highways for the most part. 401-403-QEW to Lewiston, then 290-90-490-104. I didn't circle the lake, I decided to come back thru Lewiston. On the way back I took Lake Rd (NY 101) from Sodus Point to Rochester, then hit the slabs.

A bit tired and sore this morning!

Is tempting, the conditions look perfect enough

maybe tomorrow (y)

Ya, I studded up the rest of my front tire after the crash and I don't think I will get many more chances to ride the studs this years
so lol why not, it's safer then walking anyway unless I put my foot down.

Seems the motorcycle police unit are getting their first rides in as well. I saw one last night on the 401, had someone pulled over.

Went on by first real ride ever on March 08 actually! Took the (new to me) KLR650 for its first good spin with a group of the KLR guys. About 8 of us. 160km trip roughly. We went to a buddy's fish and chips spot in Uxbridge from Toronto (go there for lunch if you are ever in the area - Captain George's!).

Did some nice country road riding on the way there, did a few dozen kms (or felt like it) on gravel too which was a little sketchy, but a nice way to get used to the weight of the KLR standing up! Some moon craters thrown in there too for extra fun.

Did 100kmh my first time on that trip, also went on the highway for the first time ever (Gardiner, so didn't spend too much time over 100kph).

Was really blessed to have such a great group that was so well organized, stayed in formation well, and overall helped me feel safe on my first group ride (along with all the other "firsts" I had that day).

Still getting used to the vibrations of the KLR haha. Hopefully my bladder gets used to that eventually so I don't have to keep stopping :ROFLMAO:

Felt great to put the boots on again but snow conditions suk and the ice is melting rapidly and too soft for the studs to work well,
guess I'm in the tire changing business this week.
Springs here :coffee:

... kidney belt ;)

Is that a thing anywhere in the world? Where do people come up with this stuff?

Driving while dumb should be against the law. That would remove half the traffic.
Probably from Quebec.

I'm pretty sure Quebec has a law forbidding motorcycle use out of season. I could be wrong.
Interesting, thx. I still think winter tire laws should be like germany. On certain days, a city/region/province declares a snow day. On those days, only vehicles equipped with winter tires are allowed on the road. That makes a lot more sense than forcing all the cars downtown to have snow tires when they rarely see any snow. People can make informed decisions on whether to pay for snow tires or accept that there will be a few days a year where they can't use their vehicle.

This is because of the province’s winter tire law, which came into effect in 2008. It states that between December 15 and March 15, “all passenger vehicles registered in Quebec must be equipped with winter tires.”

So you can ride, you just need winter tires on your bike.

I believe there is a difference between snow tires and winter tires.
Snow - being able to accommodate the accumulation of snow
Winter - the tires are softer for the cold weather driving. Thus giving more grip. Thus why you don't ride with winters above 5 degrees (or is it 7?). They will wear a lot quicker.

For normal downtown stop and go, low speed driving, I doubt you will find much difference between tires if the roads are clear (which is 95% of the time). I run snows on everything, but I think for many people where they are just a waste of time, space and money with very little real world benefit.

yup
M+S are pretty much useless if driving on any actual snow
and in Quebec they do not pass for snow tires
