First day on a motorcycle. Wow - why didn't I do this sooner?

FYI, when I did mine with RTI the bikes were pretty much hit-or-miss, in that some were fine, some had dodgy clutches, others had transmission problems, etc, etc.

That to me is unacceptable. Regardless of how (understandably) beat up in appearance the bike's are, they should all be mechanically A1 for a training environment.

As someone who is in the market for a M1-exit course, that is a big "strike" against RTI on my "scorecard".

What I made sure to do for day2 is scope out a good running bike (in my case a CBR125R)

Again unacceptable. There shouldn't be any "good" / "better" bikes.

.. With at least one of the bikes I used that day, I would have liked failed the tests as well, since it would not kick up into 2nd 60 percent of the time (and typically get stuck in first or neutral).

Did you report it to the staff ?

Was it taken out of use ?

Or did they say something like "Oh yeah, that bike does that" ?

Heh .. appropriate title "On Every corner"

Sorry to hear about your test...I've got mine coming up this weekend with Humber North.

I was trying to find information about the course itself and what they make you do...but no luck on that.
Also, I had the "Theory" portion last night...and it seemed like there was no need to go into 2nd gear at all when the instructor was talking about the weekend. He said that we would be going 15km/h on saturday...and sunday we would get up to 20km/h

I have a ninja 250...and I've rode once in my life...for 2 hours around my neighbourhood...so im no expert...from what I recall...20km is fine for first gear...you might hit 5/6K rpm...but redline is much higher.
I know it's a 125 we ride for the course...so speeds are different...but I'm just curious if you need to be traveling 20km/hr for the actual test.

I'm planning on spending a few hours riding around my neighbourhood tonight on my 250, practicing the speed up (hit 30/40km/hr) and then hit the brakes to stop without locking the wheels and my turning at low speeds...making u-turns, point my head in the direction i want to go...all that good stuff they teach you...

I hope your re-test goes good!

If only I had a dollar for every time a student reported that there was something mechanically wrong with a bike... Inevitably I would ride it and it would be perfectly fine.

Pretty sure all the schools test rode the bikes every single weeks d during prep. I know we do.

You know what - I didn't. It was brutal. I had no major issues all weekend - only stalled once. But on my test - I stalled right out of the gate. Then I stalled right out of the gate on my 2nd test. It was insane. As soon as they added a guy timing me with a stopwatch and a testing environment - I just froze up. It was the craziest thing. Anyway - I'm re-doing the test on saturday but honestly I don't know how it's going to go. I just don't do well with tests. Does anyone know what the re-test is like at the colleges? I have a bike to practice on - but I don't want to take it out anywhere without insurance first. Not even a parking lot for fear the cops will bust me instantly.

Passed re-test. Almost got perfect. It was just nerves the first time around. My hands weren't shaking this time - and it didn't have the formality of test. Once that stuff was gone I had no issue.

Congratulations on the pass! Now stay safe!
