First day of practicing in parking lot

If you're going slow then lean the bike into the turn and your body away from the turn so that you feel balanced.

Also for better control it might help using only two fingers for clutch and brake. Try it out, everyone's different.

I find most guys I know prefer 4 on the clutch and 1-2 on the brake

Yes, use 4 on the clutch as it tends to be a stiffer lever and your left forearm will get used to this action.
2 fingers (index & forefinger) on the brake. Allows for smooth use vs. aggressive grabbing of the front.

If you are making a right from a stop, angle the bike to the right - that is what I was referring to. But I have a feeling you are having difficulty making a right while moving. Keep you chin and eyes up and look where you want to go, don't look down at the front tire or the road just in front of you.

First off, I applaud you for taking the initiative to get the cones and practise on your own.

^^^^absofukinlutely

This is basically the US version of RTI/LC/Humber/CSC etc.etc., it also has some practice exercises drawn out in the end of the booklet.

For the slow speed stuff, try moving your clutch as little as possible when in the friction zone. On your bike you should not be moving it more than 1/2 inch from fully engaged to disenganed every bike is different, but the less you travel the lever, the less your bike will 'lunge' at slow speed...use the rear brake lightly, slightly elevated throttle and keep your head up. To make the turn you posted, you would need to be putting your chinbar on your shoulder pad with your eyes looking up, (you know for that idiot cager that is out to kill you). Practice you emergency avoidance maneuvers as well, especially on rainy days.

Have fun and be safe, and ya you should always check with the property owners before you start....try the church on Saturday, I think they might be open on Sundays.
