First 650 kilometer day

661 kms from Hamilton to Nobel (just north of Parry Sound) and back. I realize this won't break any records, but for a guy in his sixth decade on the planet, I thought it was pretty good. Didn't get any serious monkey butt till passing through Oakville on the way home (not bad for a stock seat). Haven't been up that way since the fall of '81. That's the great thing about long, solo rides; they give you a chance to think. I thought about all the friends that have come and gone and the loved ones that are no longer here. About kids, marriage (still great), life, jobs, and how just south of Port Severn with no traffic, the rumble of my VTX 1800 with the sun and wind in my face how freakin' awesome life is... It all came together at that moment. Gawd,I love motorcycles...

Awesome, Nobel is a great destination... I went from Woodstock to Deep River recently as well.
Hope you check out McDougall - Hurdville Rd.

Now take that same feeling and do a two day trip to lake placid and back, but pack some advil and talc for your butt.

It's the same great feeling with some adventure and breathtakingly beautiful mountain roads. ;-)

OP the older I get the MORE riding I want to do, I will die of old age and still ride motorcycles.

Piano - try a bead seat for the long hauls - really works. Nice to blow away the cobwebs. I try and ride 100-150 k every day just for that aspect.
I'm also mid 60s and the 1,000 km days going up to The James Bay Road and back were fine for me.

I was surprised when I started riding some distance again how well I tolerated it given the aches and pains and a bit of post cancer treatment side effects a few years back.

You're only a few hours from mcycle heaven down in Pennsylvania - we'll be sure to wave as we head down there this Friday for some fun in the twisties......get out there. :D

You may not have broken any records but you've ridden farther in one day than most riders ever have or ever will. Glad you enjoyed it.

Yeah that's a long ride, some people don't do that in a whole season.

I've done a little over 130kms after about a month of riding! I wish the number could be higher!

That's great. Long rides are tough but good for the soul.

Care to share your route? Lots of threads with PA suggestions but I've yet to see a complete route fully mapped out. Thx.

I did 900 MILES / 15 hours a couple of weeks ago and I'm mid 60s as well. Goldwing road sofa.
BTW in some states that mileage is illegal.

Good on you piano! I did a similar distance ride a bit while back and really enjoyed it. What route did you take? I'm thinking of a similar run for Saturday morning but looking for a cool destination.

I just passed 50,000km on my 09 Ninja 250 yesterday...Had me thinking about all the falls and the more (knock on wood) to come, awesome rides, all the noobs that think they've "outgrown" the bike after 5000 km or less and all the fallen riders that didn't make it. Times goes by quick, I hope I'm still alive and riding at your age...

Ontario routes can't compare to the USA even a short distance south of Buffalo however the border hassle can be a pain for a one day trip. Try Kingston and back via hugging the lakeshore and Quinte island Glenora Ferry etc. Jones Falls on the Rideau Canal etc. Return by swinging north through cottage country.

or

Lunch at Anna Maes (Closed Sundays) in Millbank via Georgetown, Acton, Elora, St Jacobs etc

Those are all wonderful ideas and you've made me a bit homesick. Lol.

That is what motorcycles are for! Congrat's I like to follow the Grand River from Cambridge to Lake Erie, it doesn't take long for me to looose the stress of life..

well,, as Maui [my fav!] only has 300 miles of roads, and they are pretty twisty... it would be almost impossible to put on 900 miles in 30hrs... and it seems massachusetts, vermont, new hampshire, new jersey, connecticut, deleware, rhode island and DC are smaller than Hawaii. I am still wondering about the "illegal" in some states,, wrt motorcycles? or... if you are running a log book? the log book limits to 10hrs driving in 14hrs of service with 8hr off.. or something like that. but that refers to all states,, as crossing a state line doesn't stop the log book .... and how do they know your milage?

There are several references to endurance rides (Iron butt)

Louisiana

2011 Louisiana Laws TITLE 32 — Motor vehicles and traffic regulation RS 32:65 — Drag racing and racing on public roads and certain property; exemptions

C. For the purposes of this Section, "race" means the use of one or more vehicles in an attempt to outgain, outdistance, or prevent another vehicle from passing, or to test the physical stamina or endurance of drivers.

Geiko apparently doesn't cover you if you exceed their limit.

"to bodily injury losses sustained while your insured motorcycle is used in, or in preparation or practice for:
any marathon-type contest, use in any competition and/or sporting event, or while on any race course or facility designed for racing; or
any contest which sanctions continuous riding for 24 or more hours and/or mileage accumulation in excess of 500 miles per 24 hour period."

Maybe our legal beagles can chime in on how they would find out. It's unlikely the police would make the effort to do an extensive jnvestigation over a ticket and they may be more limited in a court.
Insurance denial would be a civil court and may not need the burden of proof.

Sources of info could be credit card receipts, iron butt paperwork, forum posts. In reality there would have to be more at stake than a ticket. ie a major collision with deaths etc.

For an insurance company the possibility of a million dollar payout would cause them to snoop.
