I’m wondering, how much of a reduction in premiums would make people happy?
I hate getting my renewal as much as anyone but then I stop and think, would I cover someone for a million or so in liability if I collected $1000-$2000 from them? No chance. So I suck it up pay my bill and carry on.

What is it in "I'm looking into it" that you don't understand ? Its February, I'm in no rush. BTW, this thread started on Feb. 15th, your math is a little off.

If you have sufficient assets I'm sure there is a way to self insure but do you want to lose a million in equity because you goofed?
Insurance is a bit like running a lottery. You need a lot of people giving modest amounts of money so you have a fist full when you have to pay out.
I got my renewal on Friday, and am happy that it didn't increase at all.
I was hopeful it would go down after another year insured but I'll take it after hearing about how many people's premiums increased.
