Filtering - what was your outcome?

Just curious if anyone had gotten tickets for Filtering (not lane splitting). What was your outcome? Feel free to PM me if you do not like to share your story publicly.

Watched a rider and passenger filter on Queen West this morning. Passed 2 cop cars and nothing happened.

I think you got your answers.
It can be anywhere from nothing, to Stunt Driving / at-fault-accident

Thanks for the responses!
More interested in peeps who had been charged, and their results. Feel free to PM.

On Queen West, are you talking about riding by parked cars or filtering between two active lanes ?

Is it legal in Ontario to drive between an active lane and parked car (like on Queen West)? I've heard people getting tickets for that while I was in Montréal.

I did a quick search in the Quebec Highway Safety Code to compare with Ontario HTA. Let's just say that the Quebec one is clear and direct (and the offence attached to this is 100$ to 200$ + fees and no points).

478. No person may drive a motorcycle or a moped or ride a bicycle between two lines of vehicles moving on contiguous lanes.

From what I see, the Ontario HTA is a lot more vague on this you always risk careless driving under section 130 or worst stunt driving under section 172. Not cool.... I preferred to clear and direct fine in Quebec for that. At least I knew what to expect and it was reasonable.

A couple of weekends ago - I got stuck with a buddy of mine in insane lakeshore traffic as the BMO field got let out and the ACC took in the hockey crowd. Bumper to bumper stopped traffic - needless to say I filtered the **** out of the road to get me home as soon as possible. I passed nearly 5 or 6 cops all of whom did nothing.

I'll be cautious to filter - unless there is bumper to bumper traffic where people have shut their cars off completely.

I see cops on their HD do it on the DVP today, not in between cars though but on the shoulders.....not the first time I've seen them do it either.

Yeah but cops also run reds and other **** -_- We can't use them as an example as they're above the law.

Also, for those of you who have considered filtering: consider the fact that if a driver intends to kill you (ram you off the road, open door, etc.) you'll likely end up at fault. I used to filter as well fyi

What's the ticket for this for non-police riders? Safer for bikers than filtering, and if an emergency vehicle does need to use it, it's not that hard to get out of the way and squeeze between two cars to let them past.
Every morning I'm stuck on the 401 because of jackasses that are too cheap to buy sunglasses. Sun comes up, brake lights glow. For $100, I would definitely filter.

Improper pass or disobey sign (if it says not to drive on it) I believe. Unless there's an offence for driving in the shoulder. Keep in mind all the debris and sharp objects that get pushed off onto the shoulder though

Beginning of the month. I wouldn't try it on the 31st.

There is a specific ticket for "Pass Off Roadway", which used to be the max you faced before 172. If I remember right it is 3 points and now would be something like $500+. But with 172 you are much better off filtering through traffic than riding the shoulder.

There was a teenage GTAM member who just got his M2, and rode the shoulder maybe half a kilometer on the DVD when it was a parking lot to get to his offramp before his bike overheated in traffic. He got 172'd, and just abandoned his bike at the impound and gave up riding.

Or with parking lot traffic, you just don't stop. Because you will be boned either way.

The thread was lost in the purge.

IIRC G4getmoney was actually splitting, not riding in the breakdown lane, when he got pulled for "racing" under 172.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but:
HTA 151(5) - Non-authorized driving on paved shoulder...$85

or

This one might be a stretch, but technically the shoulder is not considered part of the highway, as thus the following could apply:
HTA 150(2) - Pass - off roadway...$85

Regarding debris on the shoulder, I have no intention of flying up it. A modest 20km/h when all other traffic is stopped is sufficient.

A modest 20km/h in heat will get a nail just as stuck in your tire. Your choice ultimately, I'm just saying it's happened

+1

Bought a brand new rear, went on shoulder next day, found a ****ing nail through it. Biggest sad face ever.
