Toyota dealership gave my buddy a 5k credit / rebate for the next Highlander if this one gets stolen. 4 people have already used that rebate at that particular dealership.
A friend loves highlanders but jumped brands after two were driven away in a few months. Toyotas lack of ability or desire to fix the problem is appalling. Instead of buying a spare $800 key, it's probably cheaper and easier to hack your car to work with a random key.

Given the seat and lead time issues, I like the garage idea. Presumably the civic will get a new home as it seems to be a garage queen.

Neighbour's daughter has her eye on it.

If push button start they are stolen quite easily and regularly, mostly from driveways. The RAV4 is not in the current top 10 but won't be far behind.

As you will also have extra money invested in it (for access) and have a need that negates just waiting to find another one if stolen, I strongly suggest it gets parked in the garage at home.

faraday cage for the key when at home…I have one, it was about $15 from Amazon.

My friends did that for Highlander two. Apparently relay attack is not required to get a Toyota. You can open it and start it without the key nor setting off the alarm.

You can plug a device into the diagnostic reader thing but you still need to open the door etc. There are diagnostic port locks that you can get. If someone’s going to go to that trouble they are probably going to do it for a higher value SUV than mine. I was more concerned about cloning keys as that’s simpler and faster. The Faraday cage stops that.

Bought it. Salesman brought it to me. It's mint with lots of extras.
Congrats. What is lead time for the seat? I am assuming the install can be done in a day?

Isn't someone on GTAM currently looking for a small truck that fits bikes? You have almost the holy grail of that category.

If my wife was onboard with it, and I actually needed a truck...I'd be all over that thing!

No.

I traded the truck. Wasn't worth the headache of selling it private. The Civic will probably go to the neighbour.
I think the seat is one day.

Niece has one and likes it.

I had one as a rental, and it was generally fine, but it had the distinction of having tires with the worst grip on dry pavement of anything I have ever driven - worse than the cube-van high-inflation-pressure tires on my van. No noticeable difference between dry grip and wet grip. Not that grip on wet pavement was anything special, but dry grip was that bad.

My niece hasn't complained about hers. Toyota sources tires from multiple vendors, and it's also possible that yours doesn't have the OEM tires on it. In any case, even if they are awful, that is a solvable problem ... replace with something else.

With only 30k, they are probably oem. It will only see about 5k per year.

I think Michelin has their $150 off thing for winters right now at Costco. I had a dealer match that price a few years ago so there’s still plenty of profit in it for them to offer that. We always get XIce and they do well on most roads. If Costco has them in stock their rims are cheap too.

The only piss in my cornflakes would be if she said no thanks.
You can always ask now and if she says no trade it in along with the Tacoma.

We traded in 2 cars when we bought the odyssey and I was working in BC as it was a waste to keep 2 cars.

Congrats on the new wheels. I was going to say go for it, you need it but you'd already pulled the pin. Can't go wrong with a Toyota except maybe their styling but most new cars have the scowling darth vader look anyway.
