Same here. Mine was done last October. Same price but a slightly larger home and with some fancy bits to shingle as well. Same company did a few houses on my street 3yrs prior and owners had no problems and everything still looked great years later.
Got a few prices a they were in the $4500-5000range for same shingles and materials.

Rich people didn't get that way by being stupid. They may pay a little more for better service but they might even be tighter with the cash.

The irony is its my house, I've had it leased out for 5yrs to the same guy. I cant afford 2 benz or his winter beater cayenne. My local (Milton guy) was 5K under the oakville preferred guy, its a 20 minute drive.

The oakville kitchen guy was kicking 80-100k around while still standing in the driveway, he didnt get hired either. I did mention we are only talking one kitchen here not a Kosher second kitchen, he looked puzzled.

Just had the roof done at my cousins' 3-plex in South Etobicoke. 3 story large roof + garage with shingles. I think the total came to $4500 or so with labour and material. Took the guys 2 days to do it, and of course one of the neighbours got pissy and called the MOL on them...no issue but idiot neighbours are annoying...

I would image roofing to be one of the greater risk occupations. Something to think about if you hire an unregistered contractor. I can see the neighbour snitching if he was a legit contractor having to play by the rules and the other not.
