Family gets parking tickets for parking in front of own house too long?

Wouldn't that make sense?

You'd think so. Sense seems to be in short supply in the GTA. When I was looking for my present house the priority list started out rural residential > garage+driveway sizes > # of bedrooms.

I's the same to a lesser extent with some of my neighbours. The driveway is 2/3 full of camper trailers, utility trailers, and "stuff". The wife parks the minivan in the remaining open part of the driveway, the husband + kid park on the street in front of the house, and they can't understand why they get targeted for ticketing.

And I don't even mind the parking in the street that much..but on the lawn? Like, really?? God help ya if you ever want to sell your house. I'm glad they don't give a ****..then people rag on the city about giving fines..meanwhile your property value just drops $50k because people think you live beside a crack-house..

^ Dude, that's seriously ghetto. Thankfully I don't think I've ever seen it in my area of 'Sauga. I'm sure up north closer to Brampton it's more common.

Can I buy some crack?

Haha. No. I put it up before bed (9:30pm) the. Park it on the road first thing in the morning. In Brampton it's only no street parking between 2 and 6.

But yeah. I remember i used to not give a F. Now I kind of feel sorry for my neighbours. I'm sure they're all very happy that I've grown up since moving in ten years ago.

there are places in Toronto that you have to pay to park in your own driveway. You have to buy and plaque that says you paid and post it up.

It's a bit more relaxed where I am. It says Burlington on my license, but it's not the Burlington you think of when someone says Burlington to you. Think no sidewalks, no curbs, culverts, and a trap door on the porch for the filler neck for the cistern (although we did get city water recently). Still, you buy a house with a big enough driveway for everything you "need" to put on it. I have 2 (sometimes 3) cars, one of which stays in the garage, and bought a house with a 1450 sq. ft. driveway. I fail to see why people can't do the same.

YOu are one of the fortunate ones, your driveway is larger than most people homes. Some people buy these properties with parking for one vehicle in the driveway and the other in the "garage" ( which was sized for a Smart Car) and are told by the real estate agent, "its okay, you can park on the lawn, or in front of your house".......nd then when by-law shows up to enforce the rules, the enforcement officers are the "bad guys" and all the homeowners problems are the enforcement officers fault.

Damn how does one family rack up 600 parking tickets? I thought I had it bad. I totally get why I'm being ticketed, I just think it's stOOpid!

As for all the "buy/rent a house to fit your vehicles" comments... really?? I guess y'all bought vehicles before deciding where to live

What's 'stOOpid' about it?

I currently live in a townhouse that has a 1-car garage and a driveway that fits 1-car. I use the garage for the motorcycles and the driveway for one vehicle. Since I don't have any more parking, I haven't bought a second car. Pretty simple, really.

It's really not rocket science..if you have 1 parking spot, you can park 1 car. If you buy another car, you will be paying parking fines. If you complain, you're either stupid or delusional.

Getting penalized for being in no one's way. This is my situation mind you, I just wish there wasn't a blanket rule for something that can vary so much from one place to another.
Oh no wait, wait... my clever response was supposed to be: "y'all- for believing it's anything more than an excuse to generate revenue. Or keep streets clear for winter plows... or keep people from using streets as parking lots while they shop..." ok maybe not that clever.

I did the same actually. You know what's not simple sometimes? Life. You might live some place with no parking and suddenly need a vehicle for work. Or, in my case, extra family members move in due to personal reasons + landlord decides to rent out basement to second tenant who also has a car and is promised half the driveway which was previously available to us.

Meh. Read above. I accept the situation, I calculate cost-benefit of parking on street and continue to do so. I still think it's stupid. No one can discuss an issue these days without one party or another oversimplifying things and calling names. I blame Jersey Shore

Not learning the first 599 times?

lol

You're renting? In 60 days you can be living somewhere else with parking that meets your requirements. How's that for oversimplified?

I guess life is more simple for those who take responsibility for their situation.

Wait...was that name-calling?

Pretty dead on but thanks! Parking isn't actually my #1 priority... the needs and concerns of each member of the family are weighed against whatever complexities exist in our lives. If we were rabbits just looking for another hole then sure, I'd adopt your philosophy.

Not unless you're calling me irresponsible ;)
