The province's police watchdog says there are no reasonable grounds to charge a York regional police officer with any criminal offence in the death of a 22-year-old man in April.
The Special Investigations Unit says the man died after his speeding motorcycle went through a red light an collided with an SUV in a Markham intersection.
Police were pursuing the motorcycle -- which had been weaving though traffic in a 70 km/h zone at speeds approaching 140 km/h -- and had believed the rider had pulled over.
However, the motorcyclist then sped into the intersection against a red light, struck the SUV, and received fatal injuries when he was ejected.
A collision reconstructionist "conservatively" estimated the speed of the motorcycle at the point of impact as 97 km/h and said there was no evidence of contact with the officer's cruiser.
SIU director Ian Scott says the officer had the lawful authority to attempt to stop the motorcyclist and did not pursue the bike after it accelerated away from him.

I know the fellow.... so sad and feel real bad for the family.

Not that it will mean much... but for someone who does not know him at all may assume he is a reckless daredevil, tattoos all over, chain smoker, perhaps even a gang member of some sort with no regards to the law.

Quite the contrary, he is an smart UofT grad, very polite, doesn't even smoke, very respectful to everyone, loved by his family and just a great friend and always willing to help.

He has a genuine true passion for the love of motorcycle and always wanted to improve his skills and techniques. We rode together in a group and he was by no mean a speed demon and reckless.

Nonetheless, sometimes people make just a slight bad judgement in the brink of an eye and unfortunately for him, it cost him his life.

You will truly be missed. Rest in Peace my friend.

Thanks for writing this. To be honest if I was his mother and I came onto this forum to see what people wrote I would be absolutely APPALLED. People are so god damn judgmental trying to figure out why he crashed and making all sorts of assumptions. You weren't there so shut the **** up. I feel so bad and people here are such trolls I would be so upset if I was related to the deceased and reading what some people wrote.
