Facebook is run by CIA

There's obviously a lot of nutbar stuff in this thread but one of the things people don't seem to understand is the value of their personal info.
your data is worth a lot
That's why you have all sorts of giveaway contests in exchange for your info, or things like Microsoft Tag.
With facebook people are just giving that info away, and more, without ever asking themselves if the tradeoff is worth it. There is some value to having a fb account to be fair, but those who just use it as a disposal bin for all their life's activities probably are losing more than they gain from it.

And BTW there is a big penalty to fame, which is the loss of privacy. I bet most star would trade some of the glitz and glamour for some privacy if they could. But once your info out there, it's out of your control for good.

Like the old adage "buyer beware" doesn't mean stop shopping, likewise, social networkers beware.

I googled myself about a couple of months ago, to my surprise I found my name under a link for a dating site (I have never joined any dating sites). When I clicked on it I found not only my personal photo on the profile but also my age.

I was furious and wrote the site demanding for them to take it down and i requested a response on how did they get a hold of my photo and my bday. I got a response back saying that they have taken down my profile and some generic response about the fact they had my personal information without my consent.

The only place I ever posted that pic was on facebook.

Thank you for removing my profile.

However, I am very concerned with the fact that my picture and personal information like age was somehow on your website as a profile.

This is an issue of privacy which I don't take lightly. I would like to know how did this happen?

Awaiting on your response

Paulo Campos

Thank you for your email.

We have removed this profile from our website; however, Search Engines such as Google maintain a database of pages on the internet of which we have no control over.

However, you may contact Google and ask them to remove a link from their search results using the following tool:

http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/removals

You will need to have a Google account to complete the request. If you have a Gmail account then this will work too.

In general deleted pages will automatically be removed from Google in around 4-6 months, however, if you use the above mentioned Removal Tool it may be removed within as little as 4-5 days, although this depends on Google and is not something in our control.

Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you.

if the government can keep watch on a potential serial killer, that's a bad thing? lol. and if you are a serial killer, time to find another hobby.

what make you think your "info" is that important? do you know the nuclear launch codes?
you must not use a credit card, cuz CC companies would "know" your purchase habit.
why are you on gtam? cuz gtam admins "know" your internet habits.
do you use a telephone? stop now, phone companies can listen in on your calls.

yup, just stop living your life because of what this "invisible man" might do with your "info"

so companies may use your "info" for advertizing, so what? it's not mind control. you still have control over what you buy.

ever hear of a false positive?

your info isn't just valuable for your buying habits or surfing habits. there are plenty of unscrupulous people out there. being wary doesn't mean that you have to stop living your life.

LOL yeah I heard about this ages ago. I don't have anything to hide, if the CIA wants to know how many chicks I shagged or all the parties I've been to let them.

"I doesn't afraid of anything"

The intuitiveness that gmail refers to is the scanning of your incoming and outgoing communications to determine what your interests are, where you might be going, where you might be located, what your schedule might be and who all you are communicating with.

It's all good until they make and error on identity and lock you up or search your house and find something illegal, or plant it. Oh send me your email password, I'd like to read your email too. Nuttin to hide right?

It doesn't even have to go that far. Harm is done as soon as the principle of privacy is eroded.

Facebook was financed and guided by the CIA, to be more accurate. If it wasn't, then it is now - and if it isn't, then the CIA is seriously incompetent at utilizing emerging technologies and social movements.

If you're okay with handing over whatever information you'd normally put on facebook over to foreign governments and intelligence agencies at the expense of supplementing (or replacing) real interaction with people for virtual interaction, then I don't see the issue.

People who don't see the big deal will continue using it as openly as they continue using it. I assure you, that information is being used. You're likely correct in that those agencies and governments don't have a microscope on you, and that they aren't monitoring you as if you're the star of the Truman show (although there is a serious influx of people on the internet who believe everyone is out to get them), but should you ever fall under that microscope for any cause or reason, you've just made their efforts in retrieving information about you much more timely, and hassle-free.
