even bus drivers hate cyclists

I'm assuming the bus driver didn't moonlight as an attorney general, hence the jail time

I've had a bus driver at the Bay St. underpass, pull out to pass, and cut back in when I was at the back doors.
Good brakes saved me from a career as a blood smear on the plexiglas.
I was so shaken, I didn't get the bus's number.
That was my last day of attempting to commute via bicycle in Toronto.

p.s. I don't like your attempt to trivialize someone's life, by equating it to stealing music.

Technically, it's the society that's doing it in many countries, where you're likely to get a stiffer jail sentence for pirating content or even defeating digital locks in order to enjoy fair use of your content.

I heard the doctor responsible for Michael Jackson's death could receive less jail time theoretically than someone who pirated one of MJs songs

I'm more complaining that the law places more weight on the "theft" of intangible media over the life of a human being.

So, if I was in Bristol, downloaded some commercial intangible media for free, then called the police and confessed, I would get more than 17 months in jail?

I see it as you trying to hijack someone's trajedy for your own, completely unrelated, purposes.

There's much stress in a bus driver's life nowadays, dealing with an insensitive public and horrible traffic. Their job used to have much more social interaction, but they're now being told to just shut up and drive. I can see them have problems coping with the stress, so maybe that's why the driver received a light sentence.
Even so, the bus driver isn't the victim here, is he? Neither is someone downloading movies that they know they should be paying for. But that should be left to a separate discussion.

I'm sure that your first time downloader, would get off with a slap on the wrist, if he/she was even noticed.

i'm say'ng attempted murderers should have stiffer sentances, or do you think a human life is worth less than some copied music?

An actual received sentence may go further to show your point. (cause right now its unconvincing)
Those copyright laws have been around for a long time and yet I dont' recall a single situation of someone going to jail for longer than that for downloading some music at home.

Nice shot. Now we all know where Hoogerland takes his morning "pic-me-up" from the team physician/magician/pharmo-chemist.

In all the miles I've pedaled I haven't ever had anyone do something stupid that I thought was intentional. I only ever get the oblivious stupidity.

Sometimes people give me a hard time for the ridiculously colourful stuff i wear while riding. Some of it is pretty ridiculous! But if you noticed how silly I look then at least you noticed me. My personal favourite riding outfit is a matching bib and jersey that are bright orange with some silver and black. Yes, I'm a real hit with the ladies at red lights. :)

I haven't heard of any charges of the length that you are speaking of. The case of our former attorney general might have been a better example for you in any case. The weird situation now, is that the software that people seem to be using, I've heard turns everyone using it into a distributor rather than a user. This could cause some interesting situations in the future. The simple solution in both cases would be to refrain from copying music that you don't own, and refrain from running over people that you are upset at.

Sorry, I didn't realize that you are the one true authority on bus driver stress and British court sentencing. Please illumine my understanding on the subject with your effluence.

LMAO! I'm not the one suggesting stress is a valid defense against a road rage charge. You brought the shovel to the party. Carry on digging, my good man.

What I know about bus drivers in the UK: http://scarygoround.com/sgr/ar.php?date=20080317

I don't see this as attempted murder, though the cyclist could have easily died. I had a really hard time understanding this until I saw the bus driver was 29, then it made a little more sense how easily the driver was provoked beyond the threshold of reasonable response. 17 months ... eh, it's in the ballpark. Comparable to a sentence for killing someone while DUI here.

Oh, so you'll just sit back and snipe?

To say something is nonsense, implies that you are aware of what makes sense.
C'mon what is it that caused the bus to hit the cyclist?
What caused him to get the sentence that he did?
I eagerly await you're enlightened facts regarding the situation in question.
