I’m very sorry for your loss PP. Being able to say goodbye is something to be thankful for and I’m sure comforts them.
I also had a tabby for about 12yrs. It just ran inside our house one winter snowstorm and sat on my lap. “I guess we have a cat now” my mom said (living in a rural farm house). Cat would walk 200m down to the bus stop and wait for us to get off the school bus every day and walk us home. Slept on my bed every night, I loved that cat. Then in my late teens it went downhill fast and couldn’t bath itself for a couple weeks and I would shoo it away when it came over for attention because I was a dumb teen and felt it was gross. Came home from high school one day and it was in a box, mom had put it down. 30yrs later I’ve never forgiven myself for not petting my friend when it just wanted attention from his best friend before he died.
That incident changed me and made me more of a grateful person but I’ll never forgive myself for it. I’m happy to hear you got to say goodbye.
