Essential Moto Tool Kit.

I carry a tool roll on my Harley, always. Princess Auto sometimes has them on sale for $60.

Also carry tire spoons and a tire patch kit on long trips, plus a very small inflator.
I carry a multi-tool jackknife also.

On my POS Honda commuter I have an old Yamaha tool kit, electric tape, zip ties, flash light. Plus the number of a towing company.

Things the tool kit has been handy for on the road:

-Trying to gain access to the main fuse at light speed when the starter switch sticks and you are 2000km away from your battery charger
-Replacing the speedo drive cable when you are riding through parts of the US where they take the speed limit a little too seriously
-Pulling the battery to drop off at Pep Boys when you forget your shiny new bike has a parking light function (not the same bike as above)

#1 thing I had on hand and was glad I did: Small vice-grips
#1 thing that I wish I had on hand that I usually didn't: Spare clutch lever (hydraulic clutches so no jury rigging) but I usually pack an old one now
#1 thing that takes up almost no space, and you'll almost never need - a paperclip for bypassing failed safety switches. I guess if you're a fancy person you can use a solid jumper wire

How come nobody mentioned zip-ties yet, they should be high on the list,
and I assume your tool kit already includes spare fuses.
I'd take tie wire over zip ties. It can handle the heat better, and you can cut it off the hank to length.

What's tie wire? You mean like when you steal a chunk of barbed wire or page wire fence somewhere  there's always plenty of that around.

18 gauge galvanized soft annealed wire used to tie metal lath to channels in plaster construction.
Many of my old cars' exhaust systems relied on that, a pair of nippers, a pair of aviation snips, and a discarded pop can to function.

I try to make sure all my vehicles have at least one of these instead of a plain valve stem cap:

Never seen a cap for them before. Do the caps stay on for long?

Yes, that cap has a hole through the middle (some don't), if it doesn't have the rubber cap on there dirt will get in.

I was talking about the black rubber cap. I've always had one of the others on my cycles, motor & bi, and sometimes my cars.

When I see these, I can't help but think that if I put them on my vehicle then immediately the perfect ******* would come along, take out my valve cores, then drop them down a sewer

Why go to all that effort, If somebody wants to be malicious all they have to do is kick the valve stem a couple of times with the toe of their boot.
