Enough of COVID...what are you doing to the house?

BTW. Costco has them on sale until the end of the month. Not as cheap as a few years ago, but $100 is still better than $130 (in-store price).

I wish mine had the wheels! I bought a handful of them from @MacDoc when he was clearing out before his trip, but the one thing I wish they had was the wheels to allow for better movement.

Need to see if I can find those wheels alone. @Mad Mike may have some input on that.

If you figure out the size and thread at the bottom of the poles it should not be hard to source some generic wheels that fit. Just pull one of the levelling feet. Likely 1/2" but I would not rule out metric, depending on where they came from.

Or with some luck someone here that does not use the wheels may have a few bags of unused wheels....

Once you determine the thread, Princess Auto currently has a sale on most of their casters.

Capacity on wheels is pretty low (800 lbs iirc). I set them up with legs and on the rare occasion I want to move them, I unload and reload. Good opportunity to find things that have been lost at the back too.
Costco racks are 500lbs if you roll them, 800 static. Real Metro racks are 2000 rolling and static.

???. Now, the numbers they provide for levelling feet do seem steep and I wouldn't want to be near it with those loads but 2000 lbs evenly distributed seems plausible.

"Weight capacity per shelf (on leveling feet): 362.9 kg (800 lb.)
  • Total weight capacity per system (on leveling feet): 2177.4 kg (4,800 lb.)
  • Total weight capacity per system (on wheels) 362.9 kg (800 lb.)"

Princess Auto casters are like Princess Auto cordless tools… you get what you pay for. Once you hit debris on the floor, the kingpins stretch and they behave like a bad shopping cart caster.

If you want to upgrade the casters on a Costco wire cart, flip the legs over and buy an industrial caster from Brafasco, BDI, Applied etc with a 3-6” wheel and a 3/4” x 4” plain stem.

Those are static loads. You don’t move a levelling feet rack so there is no dynamic load.

The caster cart is only good to the limit of the casters, 225lbs per wheel or 800 lbs/cart if it’s stationary.

If you move the cart, the dymamic (rolling) capacity is about 1/2 as lateral forces (floor debris, grates, seams) come into play. So a rolling cart will have a cargo limit of about 400lbs.

Suggestions for a local place to buy a 7’ or 8’ x 2’ live edge slab that is already finished?

I need a new DJ booth and might go with a slab and then add a frame to it to get it at the right height.

I’ll want some casters for it to move it around, so thanks for the previous discussion and tips!

I would say poke around on Facebook.

There are lots of guys that do live edge slab and charcuterie boards. Many add epoxy

You can also check out this place.
They have a "showroom" pick up location at Eglinton and Dixie area.

I have been there to pick up some stuff and I think I saw some finished products.
You may need to inquire with them .

Yup, I didn't expect much from the PA casters, but they've been doing what I need (which was to move the tire changer around to test different locations). Now that it's basically in a permanent spot, I'll probably remove them.

If I needed a slab , exotic wood in Burlington has hundreds ( they also have a second warehouse so if you don’t see what you need , talk to one of the older sales guys ) , if you travel a bit further the Woodshed in Smithville has much better pricing . Buying Kijiji slabs and Facebook are a gamble as you don’t know how it was dried. You don’t want a 2” thick slab cracking and twisting.

I've got a ton of slabs up north at the cottage. 7-12ft long, 1-3" thick but from soft wood and need some work. They're not finished though.

Not sure what my dad was thinking of when he made them, but if you want one I'm sure I'll be taking it apart in the spring / summer. I've got a pic somewhere so I'll send them to you via sms.

If properly stacked and vented , softwood will air dry about 1” per yr. So 3 yrs and older you’re ok , but you still need to surface and take the twist out . Nog many milled slabs are flat from day one .

And @mimico , your dad’s a smart guy cutting to 3” , once flattened and surfaced on a 7-10 foot softwood slab you’ll have 1 3/4 -2” material .
