Ending my Search for GSX-R

I'm ending my search for a used GSX-R after receiving the following 2023 updated Blacklist from an Insurer:
-GSX-R
-CBR/F4i/RR
-YZF R6 and R1
-ZXR
-T675

Also a statement that most insurers cannot even provide coverage but for the few that might, the costs are extreme, 5+ yrs of continuous prior insurance with clean record needed and full M license .

It helps explain why my Buddy lost his coverage for renewal of his R1. Strange thing is he had been licensed for 60+ yrs.

A Follow Up:

Some great feedback but just to clarify a few things and not endorsing what the insurers are doing.
The Blacklist is very short and comprises track ready and competition style bikes that are also designed to be street legal. We all know that they were built for one purpose and it was not to go slow. As I had noted some companies will insure them and maybe the lucky ones won't be quoted exorbitant costs.

I was told the list is current as some folks think it may be outdated.
The origin of the info came from a NFP representative who we know represent quite a few insurers.

I came upon this info while dealing with a few sellers of the GSX-R 1000. Two of them were honest when they stated they recently acquired them but are selling because of either no available insurance coverage or it was too much to insure. I did the diligent thing and tried getting a quote before buying.

I have a number of bikes but wanted a sportier version at a good used price. Having ridden my Bud's R1, I knew that I would only use it for short trips and a few good blasts within the escarpment area where I reside but now realize that it won't be cost effective for those purposes.

Oh ya, my other buddy with his R1 is over 70 yrs old, got his licence when he was eligible back in the day, clean driving record but most importantly for him is as fit as his grandkids are and smart. He was very distraught having the Insurer cancel him out but realized it was probably a good thing so he is buying a Vstrom now.

Feels like your broker is blowing smoke up your ass. That list is from 2006

Eh, that's not the right idiom is it

76 year old riding an R1?

I thought most gsxr have been blacklisted since forever? I'm surprised F4i is on there if the list is current. I thought that dropped off most lists a while ago. The newest F4i is 17 years old.

1st gen super sport in all but name.

surprise surprise, what's not on the list? S1000RRs

for most people 5 years+ clean record for 'reasonable rates' has been the norm for awhile now.

Not just the S1K. All of the European sportbikes: Panigale, MV Agusta F4/F3, RSV4, etc.
sort of a GTA inside joke. The only litre bike i consistently see riding dirty are S1KRs.

This shouldn't be allowed , if an insurance company insured a bike in the past which blacklisted moving forward, it should only apply to new policies, not renewals.

Blacklist rarely means no coverage it just means no affordable coverage. If government forced your situation, to protect themselves, insurance companies would start all new models on blacklist and think about removing from the list after a history was established.

Just because one insurer blacklists them, doesn't mean they all do.
True that…
I’m with Allstate - and they’ve blacklisted almost everything even vaguely “sporty”…
Triumph Street Triple 675, GSXs750, KTM Duke 690, 790 etc, Even anything “adventure-ish” is black listed… Vstrom, Versys, Ducati Scrambler, BMW GS800 etc etc etc…

Why don’t they just say it … ‘we don’t want your money as it’s not worth our effort’

Because some people bite. Also, as insurance is mandatory, it doesnt look good if the media grabs ahold of a story where lots of companies said no. They arent saying no, they are providing a price and you dont like it so it is unlikely the story would be pursued.

Daughter is an underwriter. Tactic at her company is to simply quote an extremely high premium and customer goes somewhere else.

No muss, no fuss or confrontations, if you don't like the quote then you're free to take your business elsewhere.

My Duc super sport was uninsurable with my last carrier , that insured my Panigale with no issue . Half the power and less value but said super sport on the side. The Ducati dealer gave me a few names that would take my business .
