@jc100 , make friends with a wood worker in you area and get offcuts of maple/oak/ash or other domestic hardwood for backyard fun, its often the bark on twigs and sticks producing the worst smoke and smell . Nice clean hardwood bits split up into nice sizes.
Its what I use to power my pizza oven , no complaints from nieghbors about smoke .

My grandfather used to travel around and pick up furniture scraps from factories near his house. Those places are long gone, but we still have boxes of his wood that he stored away that we burn every summer at the cottage. Grandpa knew.

Got one of those biolite fire pits and had roasted sausages and s’mores tonight in the garden. Very nice. Not too smokey but I think I can get it a bit better. Is there a particular wood that is less smokey when it burns? Hardwood? Calling PP.

Where did you get yours? I just Googled and looks like you can directly from BioLite.

bottom line is most people are dirty and gross and as soon as they get a shot or feel safe they more then likely let their guard down and start picking their butt and nose . Plus the highest infection rate area has a cultural issue that isn’t helping, multigenerational /multi family homes with everyone sharing a toilet. the virus will never go away so get used to it. How can people not know by now to keep clean ,mask up and avoid contact ? Answer they do know but human nature is to default to your regular behaviour...being gross and dirty and picking your nose

Counts are going up because people in the hot spots are not adhering to the guidelines. And the variants are a lot more transmittable.
Just got a call from the daycare. One person in the class tested positive. Closed until May 4 (which would lead me to believe that the last time they were in the class was Tuesday and notifications didn't go out to close contacts until sunday). It's hard to keep it under control if you have five days from symptoms to notification/isolation of contacts. We were in a playground yesterday (with masks on) so chance of further transmission is minimal but still, we wouldn't have gone if we had been notified earlier. According the health unit, the only time kid is allowed off our property is to get tested until May 4. Rest of the family can only leave for "essential" reasons like child care, shopping, work . . .

Where are you looking?

Because the numbers province-wide have plateaud now for several days and are dropping. (Edit: OK, as of todays announcement, we are basically back to plateau now, no significant statistical drop...but not climbing any more either) Only Peel continues to be the outlier - too many people there who think they need to pay attention I guess...rules don't apply to them, same old nonsense that will drag this out for the rest of us.

Remember, we're only basically 2 weeks into the quasi-decent version of the lockdown (IE, big box stores essential items only) versus the nonsense we had before that, so we're only at the point starting this coming week where we'd see the effects. The fact the infection numbers have plateau'd is a good sign to start, however.

My wife and I went to Costco yesterday to do a power-shop and out. It was a ghost town in there. Never before have I stood at the end of an aisle at 3PM on a Saturday and not seen a soul.

THIS is the way it should be. THIS is what will have an actual real world effect. No more for shopping for the fun of it. Get in, get what you need for essentials (food and some meds for us) and GTFO.

The next 2 weeks should hopefully show some major progress. Hopefully Peel gets their **** together.

90% of people hot spots or not, think they are adhering well. 80% are not.

It was Peel two weeks ago. Where is it now?

?‍♂️ This is basic science. If it incubates for two weeks before you show as positive, then . . .

Looking towards the power shoppers east of the city for the next break out.

Even anal retentive types are catching it at this point. Take the amount of activity you've been doing in public last year, and halve it at least.

Many, yeah. But I have a friend who works at a Dollarama and she says that although 75% of the "I'm just shopping because I'm bored" people have figured out that there's a lot less of interest now that they can't buy anything not deemed essential (so they're not coming), but a lot of people are still going out and wandering through retail stores seemingly out of boredom. She said one lady spent over an hour in her store yesterday before they asked her to finish up so the people lined up outside could get in to buy whatever they needed.

I get it, we're all bored, and retail therapy is a thing for some people...but....maybe go for a walk in a park or something right now while shopping on Amazon or something instead.

Are we still able to ride as a solo bike?

Not recommended at this time. If you're in any kind of a serious accident, you're a write off from what people here are saying.

And here we go with the (for all intents and purposes) "Covid Passport".

Expect this to become the norm for crossing any border or any vacation for the foreseeable future.

Build a wall around Peel. Get peel to pay for it.
