Electrics are the way, and will continue to be for the immediate future

It will take forever for the infrastructure to catch up, not to mention the technology...(Cant imagine my wife wanting to wait hours at a battery charging station)

Yeah until they figure out the range, and charge times which can match what we can currently do, it's not for everyone. Never mind the cost.

Until the wait times come down...and there are charging stations everywhere like there are gas stations now....it wont be feasible, at least not for
regular car drivers....

For more predictable things like buses(that work on a schedule) and trucks(18 wheelers) that follow set routes it will happen first.

Why not just use one standardized removable cell for all the electric vehicles that you exchange at a local energy station.
Encourage an infrastructure of private operated charging station business throughout the country just as gas stations used to be and that solves your distance per charge issues. Also the dead or exploding battery safe charging and disposal would be easier to address.

Ahem - for those of you that didn't bother to actually read the article, it asks where does all the electricity come from - Unicorns ?

Canada has the best nuclear power reactors in the world and the fuel to run them, use em.

Do the logistics of adding charging points to every parking spot in a condo garage with 500 parking spots.

Title change please.... "Tesla, are the way, and will be for the immediate future"

The other automakers still don't have a clue...

Please take the time to read the article, its about where the electricity and infrastructure comes from.
If you can't be bothered, please open a new thread yourself.

Ummm, guilty i am.
Kevin Cameron is as usual, brilliant.

Anyone willing to look into it will find that we currently have all kinds of surplus electricity.....our grid can handle a massive shift to electric vehicles if they are smart charged at night....it doesn't have to be ALL vehicles. There are some people who will always need to charge during the day. But the majority of people who drive fewer than 200kms per day (most drive a quarter of that) can charge their vehicle at night while the supply is plentiful. Keeping in mind that most homes have more than one vehicle....most homes could have an EV vehicle today without large scale changes to our grid. And yes there will be exceptions....which are exactly what they are.

(i should say that all of the above is for Ontario)

crazy how in colder weather areas (like even gatineau) they can manage to have plug ins at outdoor parking spots for bloc heaters... like it's a thing (happens in other colder cities too lol). Where there is a will there is a way

Thunder Bay Hydro has (had?) a free block heater program (the installation was on you). There are city and private power receptacles everywhere. The city ones are free and the private ones are free as incentives to shop at ____ mall/store.
