Hey all,
So was just going through the bike yesterday and am considering adding a few items to the bike:
- USB charger
- GPS
- Heated Grips
- Lights

And with time would like to add these to the bike. However, if I understand it correctly...not a good idea to connect directly to the battery so I'm wondering what would be the best way to get started in this regard?

Total noob with electrical, but if it's simple I'm sure I can figure out the basics.

Do you have room for a proper fuse block?

Invite @Evoex and @GreyGhost over for BBQ in July. We accept beer or cider as sufficient payment. Taillight warranty included in every install.

This can be arranged. I’ll make more limoncello as well.
@Wingboy yes I believe I do. Not sure how space needed but I think I can fit something in.

Hopefully there are bug screens on the gazebo because it doesn't sound like driving home after hooch is a good idea.

I would be adding a power distribution block of some kind. You have a popular farkle bike now, the internet should have some good solutions others have done. As most of your items are in the cockpit, I would try to get the distribution block near there to make it easy to add whatever.

Figure out which grips you want to use and what the switch looks like. On the ape, I ran the switch inside the fairing in front of my knees. Couldn't see it at all but it was easy to reach down and feel it.

Maybe you'll get him to come back. He was good to have around before the recent drama escalated.
No drama on here after all the threads got locked.. although some still try to get digs in here and there

Are you looking at doing all these farkels in one shot?

No. Not at the same time. This is an exercise that I’m planning on doing over a few seasons.

I think my priority may be lights and GPS/charger as those can be used at all times. Especially if I end up on this trip to JBR.

Yeah those are the two imho would be first. Be sure to check the amps draw on the lights. A good set of leds will leave you room for other add on down the road.

If it was me i would also check to see what the stater is capable of

Whoa Whoa whoa.....why am I not being invited ?!?!

In my opinion....the best thing is to get a fuze block. Or its knock off counterpart.
It is a simple thing to route (has relay) and you can take it from bike to bike.
(Welcome to Fuzeblocks - Out Stuff blows so yours doesn't)

It does cost a little $$ to buy up front, but the reliabiltiy and simplicity to troubleshoot circuits is worth it.

Heated Grips = high amp draw, always wire it with relay.

I thought you were too busy getting paid to fix bikes to help the Polak.

Here's my dog's breakfast:

Fuse block is bottom left with all the blue 15 amp fuses. Mid right silver round thing is the ground connector. Coiled red & black wire is a cigarette lighter socket. Intention was to run it to a tank bag and charge my phone or camera on the fly. There's lights, gps, heated gear, horn, and charger, lighter socket, and alarm connected, maybe more.
