Nice diagram.
Yes I forgot to mention, I have a tendency think more than I type. You're right about the capacitor discharging through the coil when you turn everything off. It's harmless. You may have also noticed that it takes 0.2-0.4 seconds for the HIDs to turn on as the relay progressively closes :D

Didn't notice that, I thought it was the HIDs just warming up, lol.

Surprising when I complete the project, it worked first shot. I was really surprised. With so many things going wrong, like my crappy soldering, facing the diode wrong, exploding the capacitor, etc. I guess my circuit diagram payed off :D
