effing rogers

Bell, Rogers, Telus are all the same garbage to deal with.

Rogers I have to argue with every year for a better rate.

Telus / Koodo I’ve been with since the days of Clearnet because they’re not good…but better than the other two for my needs.

I want a new phone, but now seeing financing on phones where they used to be free with a plan. Plus at times you are leasing it and have to give the phone back.

I just want a decent service at the cottage so wan WFH up there once in a while…not gonna happen at current rates where it appears $80-100/month is the minimum. Not worth it for using it a handful of times per year.

Have you tried starlink? I've heard good things about it.

Way more expensive than wired options ($824 startup plus $140/mo). It's like running your house off solar when the grid is available. Sure, you can do it but you will be paying five times as much for the moral victory (and I'm not sure giving Musk money instead of Robelus is a moral victory).

Church moved to a parcel of land on a farm that was donated a long time ago, so that they could build bigger.
They got internet at the start, but it was so cost prohibitive that they had to only allow the Minister & Secretary to use it.
They allowed a cell tower on the site, but it didn't carry internet at the time.
Rumor has it that the infrastructure has been built up enough that they will get a decent connection soon.

My parents cottage was still using a party line until the phone broke and bell said they couldn't replace it.

I've looked into it, but it's MUCH more expensive than the alternatives.

Wasaga has internet providers, I just don't feel like 80-100/month is worth it for minimal use. Main priority is to ensure I can do TEAMS calls with minimal lag. Outside of that, streaming isn't all that important as we try to keep the kids away from Netflix / Disney+ when we're up there.

5G phone with a decent data plan and hot-spot to your computer at the cottage. Bell is spotty in Wasaga but Rogers covers the whole town.

You just can't cut these SOBs loose.
They delay because I "havn't returned the equipment" I give them the tracking number that shows they received it weeks earlier. Then it gets delayed because the "pod" wasn't included in the returned equipment.
Me: "We expected this kind of thing from you guys. Would you like me to send a pic of it in the box?"
rogers: "oh sorry no that's good we're on it"

Just cutting them loose they made two more mistakes that could only benefit them.

I'm going to restart the search for affordable providers at the cottage. Wife wants to spend more time up there, and while I wouldn't mind the whole lot of em being up there while I work here...I'd probably miss the pitter patter that goes with the screaming 'I was first', 'no me', 'no me', DADDY!

You brought up an interesting point before. Often corporate plans have disgusting amounts of data. It could be worth the conversation to see if work cares about you using cell data to wfh. Personally, I wouldn't run netflix through it but I know people who do.

My biggest concern is for the meetings. I can use the phone for being in the meeting...but the video demands would be huge.

I'll look into it though, as I only need to tether to pull/push emails so unless the attachments are stupid large...it shouldn't be an issue.
