EBIKE/Scooter or CBR 125

As cool as those bikes are, they are completely illegal on roads in Ontario. They don't fit the requirements for an ebike or a motorbike.

If you are trying to save money, a good ebike is the way to go, if you are trying to have fun, the 125 is miles ahead.

MickeyD's, I'm not sure what your problem is but I stand by my statement.
You cannot/will not get 600-700 KM's out of a 60 L tank on a 98 Windstar, just not going to happen.

Your 100 L van, on a highway ride you can probably get close to 1000 KM's but not quite... :wink:

Y'now you're flat out wrong....I drove on a single fill up from Mississauga west end to Ottawa and back - it's just over 1000 km and I filled it up with 101 litres when I got back to the same station on the corner so I don't give a rat's *** what you THINK you know - you are wrong.

And mine is 2004 Freestar with the big motor - I do use synthetic oil which helps

35 psi tires and a cruise control can take a big vehicle a long ways.....I guess you understand why hi performance sailplanes carry water do you? Take a physics course some time instead of looking foolish on a forum.

Back OT...given city driving I'd think an electric assist mountain bike style might be the nicest option.

It's too bad insurance kills so many mcycle/scooter options.

I see these Americans with multiple bikes cuz their rates are so low. :(

I surely enjoy my CBR-125R, and it's no problem to ride it inter-city. In June I rode it from GTA to Barrie then over to Owen Sound and along the Huron shore to Goderich, all in one fine day. The next day I visited several towns in Western Ontario and rode back to Toronto.

In July, I rode it to Muskoka and back in a day, and kept up fine with traffic on 400.

This month, I rode it from Tampa to Daytona, in company with 1200-cc bikes and 650s and the like, and I kept up with them very well on the twisty roads we rode. The next day I rode from Daytona to Sarasota, about 310 kilometers, in four-and-a-half hours, again on twisty roads that I know well.

The bike is tremendous fun, and it can go anywhere I want to go. It can also go a lot of places I don't want to go at all. For instance, a crazy man from Windsor ON rode to Key West, then to Deadhorse, then to Key West, all in June 2011.

Deadhorse? You don't know where that is? It's near Point Barrow. QUITE a ride for a 125!
 
I like the CBR 125 but saying "keeping up with traffic on the 400" is a bit of a stretch and might mislead a potential buyer.
Tolerable on in the slow lane or in rush hour traffic on the 4xx might be a bit more accurate and certainly it's wonderful on twisties and secondary highways.
 
+1 for the cbr 125, it's a great utility bike that runs well, is easy and cheap to maintain and you can do almost anything on it except lose your license on a 400 series highway. I've done quebec city to toronto in a day on the 125 loaded with (light) camping gear with another member from the 125 forum, I've also done a 125 specific track day with it (so much fun and a great learning experience). There is a reason racer 5 uses 125's as their school bikes (with a few minor mods mainly to suspension & tires) There is also a great forum with a lot of tech advice and support.

Insurance is reasonable, they can be found lightly used for cheap and are (for the older models) not that pricey new. A 50cc scoot might be cheaper, but the 125 will definitely be more fun.

130-140.. yep.. typical minivan driver.

Just patch the hole yourself with exhaust tape.

Yep the CX7s are know to be high on gas usage.. hence theres a few on used lots

Which one is legal? The lowest power one I could see was 900W, anything over 500 is not legal in ontario. As much as I think the ebike laws are stupid, at least they are very clearly spelled out for us.

Man..... I hate e-bikes.
Especially when you want to make a right turn, they are right beside you or close behind you?
I just give them some revs to stink their space up.
