Earplugs

I hope they're not uncomfortable for me because I paid a lot more that $20 for them. lol. Apparently you have to lube them with petroleum jelly the first few times you use them. Also, I've been told to wear them for an hour or two the first time then slowly add usage time as you break them in (or more like break you ears in).

Not K.Y.?

Good idea. My ears are excited already.

Seriously, I believe because they're silicone they will stand up to petroleum based lube. It's supplied with the ear plugs.

:( my wife threw out the pair I bought at the show I think. They gross her out.

I've never been able to keep generic ear buds in while pulling on a full face helmet.

If foam plugs fall out then it's very likely that they just aren't inserted correctly. My wife had a very hard time getting them inserted, so I usually had to do it for her. This seems to be very common; for instance I have never seen anyone on Mythbusters wearing them properly. If they aren't seated properly they basically don't reduce the sound at all.

It's a bit long, but worth watching: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPNPZJingZA

FWIW, I use the CanadianTire 32 NRR ones, and my wife now uses custom molded silicone ones.

ear plugs are ear plugs

MODS!! please delete this post on account of stupidity! Ya a $0.50 foam earplug compares directly to a $70 custom injection molded ear plug... RIIIIIGGGGHHHTTT

Did the m1 exit course at Durham last weekend, best 3 pieces of advice...

- look where you want to go to turn
- push the steering in the direction you want to go
- wear earplugs

Seriously, started wearing earplugs yesterday after a long ride & wind noise had me tired out. What a difference -- will never ride without earplugs again now.
Do you want to reconsider that statement?

You may not have been paying attention all that well.

If you want to go right, push on the right handlebar; which is initially counterintuitive to a new rider. This is push or countersteering no?...

Maybe, just maybe you were wearing earplugs when they said it, and that's how you ended up under the minivan and not Nwhiteside.

This company http://www.protectear.com/ was at the Budds BMW Motorrad a few weeks ago so I got fitted for some custom made plugs but I'm still waiting. Also ordered the DualCom Headset so I can listen to tunes while riding. I've never been able to keep generic ear buds in while pulling on a full face helmet.

I have no problem using foam earplugs, I wear them all the time. The problem I have is not being able to keep audio earbud type headphones in while putting on a helmet.

Sorry I just couldn't help myself, lol, no disrespect to your wife.

They need to be rolled and compressed before they're inserted, when they expand they should block the noise. I usually do this before I put any other gear on while the bike is warming up. Sometimes they don't seal perfectly and need to be adjusted a bit or they let in certain frequencys and they get really annoying.

Anyone got a source for the moulded (fitted) ear plugs.

I have a set now and the urethane coating is almost gone.

I don't know if they can be recoated or if I need a new set.

That being said a set of ear plugs is a better investment for long rides than a corbin seat. ;)

I have earplugs and also listen to music via BT headset (Sena SMH-10) which is LOUD.. can hold a conversation at 100km :) even with earplugs in.

b

Wait... you were having a conversation with earplugs in, while listening to music and going at 100 kms an hour? I don't think talking to yourself counts.
