Early model (2012-ish) Volkwagen Tiguan - good or no good

Nissan Qashqai late model = Nissan CVT = stay away

Earlier Jeep Patriot/Compass (same car underneath) if automatic, check for CVT (IIRC not all of them were, some used a Hyundai-sourced 6-speed automatic), if so, stay away.

I had two VWs which were good cars, and the second one was a much earlier PQ35/PQ46 platform-mate to that Tiguan (Mk5 Jetta). But, mine were diesels (before the emission controls went crazy) and manual. I'd stay away from early FSI (direct-injection gasoline) engines.

My niece has a Rav4. I've had one as a rental. It's dull and boring and you can't recognise which one in the parking lot is yours, but it works. CRV is the same story. Toyota and Honda vehicles are overpriced for what they are.

One of my clients is a Honda exec in the used car division in Brampton...he's always taken care of me. Email me and I'll give you his contact.
With the price of fuel I'm surprised she wants a small SUV. Not the most efficient.

I've learned about the Nissan CVT the hard way. Won't ever own another Nissan product. Wouldn't take one for free.
Agree with you and @Brian P. We bought my parents’ 2012 Rogue and the CVT was failing in that thing. We promptly traded it in on the Odyssey.

No issues yet with the Qashqai for my mom…but she’s literally the ‘drive to church Sunday’ type that barely ever drives.

4 years of ownership and maybe 30k on the odometer….maybe.
