Well i had a rather unpleasant experience there, i thought i would share my story.
Recently i'd been thinking about upgrading to a newer vehicle. My Ranger is getting a bit higher in km's now, and while it's still running really well it might be wise to trade it in while it's still in good shape. I'd been doing a lot of browsing, i wasn't too sure what i wanted but i had some criteria it had to fit. I ended up finding an 04 Lincoln Aviator for sale at the above mentioned dealer that would suit my needs well.
I had done some checking into what Rangers similar to mine were selling for, stopped by the bank to discuss financing, so i had a pretty good idea of the numbers before i got there. Over Wednesday and Thursday this week i exchanged several emails with one of their salesmen to confirm that i would be there today around noon to view the truck.
Well i got there today and found the guy i'd been emailing with. He took me over to the Aviator which was in their indoor showroom. The first oddity was that there was about 18 cars and trucks between it and the door. Obviously i wasn't going to be taking it for a test drive. Alright, whatever. The sales guy says don't worry about it, he took the truck home the week before and it runs and drives great. (Do people not test drive vehicles anymore???) Weird. So i ask if i can start it, he says ok but it'll need a boost. (Didnt he just drive it home the week before??) He came back with a booster pack and it started up fine. I was checking out the truck, he really didnt seem that interested in telling me anything about it.. then he wandered off. About 5 minutes later another sales guy came over and complained about having the truck running inside even though its basically a big garage. So i couldnt even make sure it'll come to operating temperature properly, couldn't make sure the heated seats were working properly and not overheating and shutting off.
All this was mildly unsettling but i still liked the truck. I had some numbers in mind for trade in value on my truck and that's pretty much what the sale hinged on. My Ranger is a 2002, i checked the Auto Trader for every 2001-2003 Ranger in Ontario and printed off the list and had it with me. The cheapest one was $4000 for a regular cab, 2wd, 4 banger. The one most similar to mine was actually at $8000 altho mine does have more kms. So obviously you don't get as much for a trade in as you would selling it privately, but i figured my truck would sell for about $6000-$6500 right now. Based on that, i was planning on asking for $3800 trade in, and $3500 would have been the minimum. The sales guy told me that the 02 4x4 SuperCap Rangers were all selling for about $3500 on the Auto Trader and that he just checked (meanwhile i have the printout in my pocket, the cheapest truck on there was listed at $4000). I even told him i had the printout, i showed it to him before all this but he decided to lie to my face about it. He said he'd give me $2000 for trade.
Yea yea, i know.. a dishonest used car salesman???? Who knew?! Sorry for the rant..
