Planning to show up for this ride as I haven't been able to do any twisty rides by myself yet. I live by KC and highway/backroad is fine by me. 250cc
I have taken several new riders on this trip on two separate occasions. In total I have had six first time gravel riders comment that gravel was much easier than they expected and several mentioned that they were happy that their first time on gravel was in a group.
That section is a very nice scenic area that nobody would ever know about and I ride very conservatively in the gravel section. I host this ride to allow newer riders, especially first time group riders, to acclimate to group riding in a conservative speed environment and the gravel section is an additional learning opportunity. I adjust my riding throughout this trip, in the gravel and the twisties, specifically to accommodate the new riders.
I encourage any new riders to come out to this ride. I ride at a pace that should be within the limits of any new rider and I encourage all participants to ride at their own pace in the corners.
I might still make it out for this, but if I do I'm likely to skip that section, and just meet up with the group again when they come back out on Highway 2 if that's alright. Is that section the only unpaved section, or are there others beyond Port Hope?
Out of interest too, whats the headcount looking like, and what type of bikes are most people bringing?
Been here from 10. -:-
conundrum: That is the only gravel section on the trip, and it is one of the most beautiful spots on the entire route. Not to be missed. Sorry you didn't show. If one of the guys has the pics, I'd love to post it here, it really is an easy section of gravel at really slow speed and an absolutely stunning view.
Thanks again for the beautiful route. The gravel part literally lasts two minutes and is the most scenic part of the ride. I will definitely check that place out again; and any future rides.
