its disappointing to see that 300 years later politicians are still hypocrites. All I can think off is Animal Farm where “some pigs are more equal than other pigs”
I got thinking about this again. I'm sure I'm not the only one on the forum who has a relative or two that have served time. I don't know about the others but I'm not changing my name.
Personally, renaming is a big undertaking and I would rather we just "decouple" the name from the a-hole and use it as a constant ongoing teaching tool that Dundas the guy was an giant a-hole, and why. I don't think erasing history is the right thing to do, instead we need to understand and never repeat those bad parts.
All of this makes a lot of current politicians and other people nervous right or left. In the past they got to do what they wanted and their legacy was white washed. I think it is entirely positive for them to be judged in perpetuity based first on their a-hole moves (past, present and future). Might make a few rethink things....
half of west oakville is a tribute to Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson, trafalgar rd, bronte, bronte creek, village of Nelson, Palermo, and a half dozen other examples.
He was an advocate of slavery, colonialism , defended slavers and generally a bad person. Do we rename everything Happy Ave.? and what about the depressed people that dont want to live on Happy Ave?

How many nut bars are going to climb to the top and tear down Nelson in Trafalgar Square. London.
Lots, I hope.
The last sound from them was, AAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggghhhhhhhh. Ker splat.
I'm all for wokeness, but it's a little unfair to judge people by their words/actions in a different time based on modern perspectives. Once you start down that road, there's not going to be a lot of historical figures standing.
Vaughan is another one that was a slave owner. My old highschool, Vaughan Secondary School, has already dropped the name (not sure if they picked a new one) because of a petition.
This is in contrast to the discussion in the US about the confederate flag, and confederacy monuments. Much of that came about during the civil rights era, imagine why.

Dont name them after current leaders, in about 100yrs they will figure out Morneau and trudeau were cheesers and the We scandal was real and we have to rename stuff again.
Nothing wrong with West 62nd street.......

The numbered street and avenue grid is hard to remember addresses in, but super easy to navigate from where you are yo where you want to be. You also know roughly how far it is without needing any local knowledge.
