Duffy: Jevco 2011 changes - sneak preview

Me too!

I've got some good news and bad news with regard to the sport bike list. The good news is that only the below listed Ducati & Aprilia bikes will be surcharged. All others will be considered standard and not subject to a surcharge. Jevco previously classified all Ducati & all Aprilia (except the Scarabeo) as sport bikes subject to surcharge.

Ducati 749, 848, 999, 1098, 1198, 1198S, 1198R, Desmosedici RR

Aprilia RSV 1000R, Mille, Factory

The bad news is that the 1996 sport models will remain surcharged. The rule has been modified to read:

"Models 16 years and prior are considered Standard Models - Calculate the effective year of the contract minus the model year".

This means that for this calendar year only sport model bikes with a model year of 1995 or older will be considered Standard models.

Holy cow, Ducati Monsters are no longer blacklisted.

"Models 16 years and prior are considered Standard Models - Calculate the effective year of the contract minus the model year".

This means that for this calendar year only sport model bikes with a model year of 1995 or older will be considered Standard models.

That's excellent! Now the surcharge exemption moves up a year every year! Buy your 1998 Busa now!

Thanks for posting this information. Any chance that you could post the entire Sport Bike Surcharge list and make it a sticky? Questions related to the list come up all the time.

Not quite. No guarantee what the rule will be next year. It may very well read 17 years or older next year.

Yes that will be done shortly.

Ha, well let's hope not. I along with many others would be happy if the 16 year exemption stays put every year.

I know that would make a lot of people happy, however I just doubt that will happen. If they were going in that direction then they would have added the 1996 models this year and they did not do that.

But on the flipside, why did they need to reword it? Jevco could've just left the 1995 and prior exemption alone with the same net result.

Can the loyalty discount (5%) and the new business stability discount(5%) be added together for a rider that has been with Jevco for more than 2 years AND been with the same motorcycle insurer (Jevco) for more than 24 months based on the info below?

I ask because I have been with Jevco for over 5 years continuously which would seem to make me eligible for both discounts. Otherwise it would seem that these two items overlap into redundancy....

This would be awesome! Honestly I wouldn't mind the 7.5% increase IF I got at least the 5% discount and a multi-bike discount. Otherwise I am only insuring one when I would really like to insure two.

I worked it out for young male riders with less than one year of experience, 19.2% rate increase from a quote 2 weeks ago to today, kicking myself that I didn't insure it then and there.

Wow I would have been eligible for 10% off, was with them for 4 years and two bikes but the rates I got this year were ridiculous and TD killed them so I left. Sucks because the reason I stayed so long was I like my broker.

Oh well, if TD insured bikes over 30 years then I'd really be laughing.

FYI to others seeking multi bike discount though, TD offers 25% off each policy, if I insured my 250 and my 650 it would work out to almost the same as the 650 alone lol.

I didn't know that TD had a 25% multi-bike discount? Is this new?

No idea, I was floored. Would cost me next to nothing to insure my KZ400 if they did old bikes. Pretty nice discount that is for sure

EDIT: I'm trying to see where I got 25% from, might have been my rough calculation after getting quotes for two. On their website it just says "Multi-Bike Discount
If two or more motorcycles are owned or leased by members of your household, and are all insured with us, a premium discount is rewarded on motorcycles where the principal operator is 25 years of age or older.

Going to call in tomorrow or Tuesday to get my new quote. I hope the premiums didn't go up too much!

Good news! No change to the rule that Jevco will provide their Preferred rates to riders licensed for a full year regardless of whether or not they have insured a bike in that year.

Any chance of this rule continuing to next year?
