Ducati Desert X

Charlie Sinewan (he is a YouTuber) switched to Desertx after many years on BMW. Will be interesting to see how it will go.

Way back when the first generation Suzuki katanas were introduced one of the motor rags quoted Proust

“Let us leave pretty women to men with no imagination.”

Not saying that i agree but i did buy the bike.
Was that the one with the pop up headlight? I was on way home from work one night when they first came out and spotted one on the DVP or 401. Followed him all the way to his drive way see what was up.

As far as philosophers go didn't any say we should have both chicks and bikes?

The pop up headlight version was gen2 the one that i had was an 82 750 version that may have been a Canada only model. This was the beginning of a good era for Canadian Suzuki fans as we and Oceania started getting Suzuki's top spec for open class sport bikes.

I was just at GP Bikes, they have a Desert X on display there. First time I've sat on one. Good ergos: sitting and standing.

Speaking of special livery :), when Ducati signed Petrucci away from KTM for MotoAmerica, they created a special Dakar livery (inspired by Audi RSQ e-Tron) for him for one of the press launches:

I just dont want to take somethiung that pretty off road knowing the crash is not if but when
I kinda feel the same way about my new Beta factory. All my trials buds tell me i should put frame guards on it. But, meh. It's not gonna be new forever.

GP Bikes had one on the floor when I was there last week.

A nice bike, +/- $20K before tax etc. I was surprised that it had a steel tank though. I doubt that many of them will spend ANY time on gravel let alone actual dirt.

Yeah, I sat on that one.

The throttle felt kinda of janky, not smooth like my Hyper. If I was getting one, I think it'd be a v2.0 kind of purchase.

Perhaps I need to elaborate more on my opinion of the Ducati Desert-x.

Its an attractive bike, in the same way as a luxury SUV... eg. a Land Rover. Rich soccer moms drop off their kids in their $150,000 status symbol that will never see a 4x4 trail.

Same can be said of the Ducati... or a GS for that matter.

My .02c, 85% will never see dirt. 10% will see gravel. 3% may see atv track, the 2% left is talented offroad riders who cut their teeth on trials and enduro bikes will take it to single track...

To each their own.
