Ducati 848 evo mini review

Although I feel the new generation Ducati superbikes look better than the new Japanese sportbikes and certainly better than the butt-ugly 999/749 series, they pale in comparison to the 916-998 generation.

I agree, with RetroGrouch, 916 is one sexy bike!
But I'm bias :)

He says it like its a good thing, but in reality it makes for a crappy street bike. If I have to crack it down to 1st just to get some power at 70kmh then its largely useless to me. 600cc supersports are lousy street rides.. they're completely gutless at city speeds.

I wouldn't count them all out! My f4i loves going through the gears.....though I'm still trading it next year for something a bit more relaxed.

Dear HA3AP,

I hate you. Not only have you now made me want an 848 more than ever before, you've also confirmed that this is indeed my dream bike. Waiting 3 more years until im 25 is going to be a million times harder now.

I hope you're happy!

Sincerely,

daytona675

The good news is by the time You turn 25 848 will be revamped... Rumor is new version is due 2012.

Note this review will compare the 2011 Ducati 848 evo with my current bike 2008 Yamaha R6.

To start off, damn what a bike, and damn it rattles (Has that sort of HD rattle).

Riding Position:

The seat is high, but it is much lower then the tank, the tank itself is narrow which adds great lean control, and great knee grip. It also is amazingly steady both on high and low speeds and nicely balanced. The ergonomics are also great, much better then the R6 which has the most aggressive ergonomics of any bikes Ive ridden so far. The bike also has amazing handling and flicks into corners with ease, its very confidence inspiring.

Performance:

Because the bike packs 848 cc v-twin engine it has best of both worlds, great horsepower numbers and amazing torque. Unlike the R6 where you have to keep the revs at 10k for peak performance, the 848 matches it easily at 5-6k, the engine is extremely smooth, with steady power delivery, you practically never have to downshift in order to get to that holly grail of power. Another great thing on the bike is its brakes, long story short they are amazing. In comparison the R6 breaks feel outdated, under extreme breaking feels like im trying to stop 18wheeler that is going at million miles per hour, the 848 though feels like stopping a feather... Once again the breaks are simply astonishing. Same goes for the Forks, Showa are doing what they should do.

Conclusion:

For those deciding to upgrade from a 600cc to a 1000cc and are considering a ducati, the 848 evo will be more then enough. It never lacks in power, the brakes are amazing, crazy amount of torque.

Verdict: 5/5 Must buy, and with it you get the special feeling of owning a Ducati, and shes a jaw dropper every time you open the garage...

If anyone got any questions feel free to ask.

Interesting, they are generally known to be heavy steering and uncomfortable.
The R6 is one of the best steering.

Keep in mind the R6 is significantly down in midrange compared to other 600's.

Heres a slideshow I made using iPhone app Amoveo, theme is called "Memories" damn I miss that bike!
