Dropped my bike today ><

Bad day for me today, dropped it in my backyard. I blame it on the wet grass... wasn't a bad drop since i held it back and feathered the fall.
Then stalled it twice on yonge st. Once with another rider beside me and once trying to u-turn but panicked!

I still need more practice.

Any tips for looking for parking spot on the side of the road without stopping traffic behind?

Dropping it's a bummer for sure - and often it's the surface you're on that catches you by surprise. I've slipped in mud, slid on ice, lost my footing in gravel or on sandy asphalt - some while paddling with my feet, some while walking or moving the bike. All those were in about the first 4 or 5 years of riding. It's been a long time, so I guess I finally learned!

You do need practice, maybe to build the skill but more importantly your confidence, so that the traffic or other riders around you don't affect your confidence. As for looking for a spot, that's a good example. You shouldn't need to stop to look for spot, you should be able to just slow down. When cars parallel park, the traffic behind them has to wait. If you're really worried about holding them up and you want to let them by, put on your right signal and move over as far as you can to the right so they can go around. Stop when you find your spot and when the traffic clears or stops, you can back it in.

Bad day for me too, I got rear ended this morning. I took off my gloves to fix a strap, the light turned green. In that rush I didn't have a chance to put my gloves on, and stalled the bike. The van tapped me lightly, bending my licence plate in half. The driver was a cop, I guess he wasn't paying attention to the road. We walked away as if nothing ever happen.

Reminder to check your mirrors at the lights.

I dropped mine 3 times last year lol, never before.

Once at the parking lot of cherry beach while seating on the bike - also cracked my tendon trying to hold the bike
Once at a gas station
Once on some sandy pavement going like 1km/hr

It is freaking hilarious when it happens

I hate to hold up traffic, seems a bit unsafe to me. I will try it however, I notice some drivers are pretty good with bikers nowadays.

I still can't get over the nods and acknowledgement you get from other riders on the road! It's so FREAKIN' COOL!!!

It makes you feel part of a club doesn't it? Conversation with another rider just flows much easier I find.

And dropping your bike isn't all that bad. We all did it, we all learn from it.

Had a bad day today also never letting anyone sit on my bike again, my friend tried to get on and knee'd one of my turn signals off. Now its duct taped -_-

OP - its all good. Everone sometimes stalls their bike. Some more than others but it's no big deal. While I have not yet dropped my bike, I can assure I've had lots of close calls. A little inattention can get you in dire situation fast.

What seems to be working for me is that I am resolved to never be in a hurry. I take my time and am deliberate in what I do and always signal my intentions. I try to be courteous to let other drivers pass me when I scope out parking. If the situation is too intense, I circle the block and make a new attempt. So I allow extra time. That way I don't feel any pressure to rush - because if I rush I will do something stupid and have a problem.

I've been riding a Vespa for eight years so am ok with traffic. Riding a mc is quite different and am still getting used to it. But so far people driving cars have not been a problem. If you make it obvious what you are trying to do, most ( but not all) drivers will cut you some slack. I try to return the favour.

Hah, I kneed my passenger peg tonight. Embarassing to say the least

I walked straight into my mirrors when I got off the bike lol.... It's good to laugh at yourself once in a while.

The worst part was trying to act like nothing was out of the ordinary to the group of girls walking by.

Oh they knew. That's when you make eye contact with cutest one and follow up with "just making sure its on there good and tight for when I take you for a ride later". Follow up with charming smile and said girls phone number

That awkward moment when 2 cuties are checking you and your buddy out at a stop light, you make eye contact, wink, then wait a couple seconds for a response and the girl looks creeped out.

That hilarious moment when you realize you left your dark visor down and they thought you were just staring making no movements or noises.

easy fix
just say "I just stole it" and watch their smirk change instantly

I've dropped my bike numerous times popping it off the centre stand only to have the kickstand land on top of my foot. Really embarrassing lol.

No drop but I can add to the list of stupid today;

Took bike to the shop to have sliders installed and went to get the bike back during lunch, warmed it up, took my glasses off and set them down on the seat to put my helmet on. Put my gloves on, sat on the seat and drove off to a nearby wendy's to eat.

Park and stop the bike, get off and start taking my helmet off while walking towards the restaurant then go OH **** MY GLASSES!

Run back to the bike preparing to have to drive back to the shop and found them still on the seat, completely fine.

I somehow managed to sit on the bike in a way that secured my glasses without destroying them.

Dun worry too much about it OP, I laid down my bike two times. Both times in garage and they are stupid mistakes.

First drop, sitting on the bike, dropped my glove, try to pick it up from the ground and laid down my bike. Remember to use your kick stand!!

Second drop, tried to put the bike on the rear stand and tilt it one side too much, dropped and cut my hand while cushioning the fall. :(

Ah yes, learning how to use stands on your own is an uphill struggle. The worst is taking it off the stand

At Port Dover last July 13th I went to get off my bike and left the kickstand up.
Felt like a total fool.... Until I witnessed someone else do the very same thing 15 minutes later!
Another time I stopped in someone's driveway to change my gloves and stretch a bit.
Got off the bike and left it running only to turn around and watch it slowly roll forward off the side stand.

I find it easy to put my bike on the stand.

When I'm putting on the rear stand I make sure the front wheel is straight which helps me hold it standing up straight with my left hand while I slide the rear stand into the spools and prop it up.

To put it down I turn the front wheel to the left and have the kick stand down. As I remove the rear stand, I let the bike lean to the left and go onto the stand.
