Ok so I usually have about 30+ windows open plus some video on on pause.
My laptop fan would be going nonstop on high speed plus the heat generated was concerning.
I am using Win7. My laptop would start to shutdown due to the high temps. It never did this before but then again I am now watching high def tv via XBMC, Hulu etc...
Have a look at where your fan is located. I am lucky as there is a large removable cover in that section.
Remove said cover, vacuum out or use compressed air to blow the crap out of everything especially where your heat vent is located.
*remove the power and laptop battery first*
Now get a permanent marker and have a look on the cover as to where you can add some holes to increase air flow and allow heat to escape. Mark them paying attention to any locking or support plastic bits on the underside.
Use a ruler to create a nice neat pattern.
I placed my cover on top of a pizza box to allow the drill to sink in.
Start with a small bit then work your way up to the next size that you want. I think I ended up with 3/8th or the size just below it.
Make sure you don't drill holes next to locking mechanism or plastic clips that keep the cover in place.
Drill about 8-10 holes. Try to drill some around the fan and CPU or GPU.
Also drill some away from that area which will allow more cooler air to be pulled in.
Yes, I tried a laptop chill mat but the problem still persisted because there was just not enough vents for the cool air to get in.
My laptop is happy and the higher speed on the fan does not really turn on or is not running constantly.
You can feel the heat escaping out of those areas as well.
*make sure you have grounded yourself and not "staticy" touch a wall outlet and wear rubber bottom shoes to be safe.
Take your time as this should take you 15-20 minutes.
You can also do the same for your hard drive cover.
HEAT IS THE ENEMY which causes your laptop to run slower/crash and fail.
If anyone has any ideas of some thin film that I lay on the inside to act as a filter please let me know.
No axle grease required.
