Downtown Riders

CBR500RA in black. It's waiting for me at the dealership, but I chose to take my RTI course first before riding it home. Taking the course next weekend, so picking up the bike the monday after.

Picked it up last night! I have been missing out. Riding is so much fun!

I'll be available Sunday afternoon (around 1pm) for a ride. Still technically on M1, so can't ride in the dark but sunset nowadays is around 9pm anyway.

Hey guys.

I'm a new rider and been riding around the block. Where are you guy riding or meeting, I like to join. What is the best way to keep in touch? Do any rider text to schedule a meet up? I'm near keele/dundas

Congrats! I might be free Sunday, too

It looks like my whole weekend schedule just freed up. I'll be available Friday after 6, then Saturday and Sunday all day. Although the weather doesn't look very friendly. The motorcycle gods are not pleased it seems.

Rock,
I'm not too sure how it all works yet as I'm pretty new. But keep an eye on this forum, there are many rides happening all the time.

Congrats on the purchase. I think they're great bikes and I've heard nothing but praise for them so far. I was just browsing this thread to see where it was going. I'm out of the city but I'd be down to come check out this hard rock cafe one day if anyone wanted to go for a ride and end up there. At 35 I've never been to the Toronto one. :dontknow:

Does any new rider experience some issues with stopping for a red or stop sign up the hill ... -_-...
I think I will avoid any hill road in Toronto for now.

Hey Roomie,

I go with you. I'll send you my number, text me when you visit Toronto.

hey dude, as a new rider, being able to stop "properly" for ANY situation is extremely crucial. i recommend that you either get your brakes checked or have an experienced rider take your bike on a quick spin to determine if something may be wrong. If nothing is wrong, then maybe you just need a quick brush up on how braking points for different speed. You will have practice this on your own. while on the road. try come to stop from various different speeds. And so you know how powerful your brakes are, try breaking WELL in advance so you know how much braking power you have.

Cheers and ride safe!

Heh, I was just parked behind there last night to go to the Eaton Center. I would be up for going there during the day on a weekend (I'm still on my M1 until August so can't ride at night :( )

Thanks for the tip.

(The road I'm practicing is in a neighborhood that has less traffic.)

The situation I have was going up the hill (this is a BIG hill...) and I have to stop (in this case for a stop sign). I have difficulty getting the bike to proceed smoothly after the stop. I either stall the bike or afraid to release the brake (then the bike will move backward...rollback)...
I did manage to proceed through the intersection. The step to proceed after the bike should be similar to any other stop/traffic light. For some reason, I was like...what to do...

Anyway, I found the answer!

Cant see what youtube vid that is (at work) but the best way to start on a hill is to hold down the rear brake to stop yourself from rolling back, then release the clutch and give'r gas (enough to get up the hill + enough to combat the rear brake) once you are rolling forward release the rear brake slowly.

easy peasy with a little practice. :D

Hey Rock,

I am a new rider too.

If you want to ride around downtown Toronto I will join ya! Practice is always good!

Use ur rear breaks not ur front breaks so you won't roll back and when u start moving slowly remove ur feet from the back breaks and give it gas.
