Down on the tracks

Anything metal in the road that's been polished to a nice mirror like surface by hundreds of cars is brutally slippery in the rain. I feel my bike step out a foot or so on wet mornings when I hit a bridge expansion joint on the Lakeshore/DVD west on ramp. It really is as bad as hitting a patch of black ice.

So watch for street car tracks, man hole covers, catch basin covers, bridge expansion joint or metal plates they put down sometimes in construction zones.

Also watch out for painted lines. They get really slippery when wet also.

Pretty much anything that has a smooth surface will get slippery when wet (asphalt isn't exactly smooth, unless it's freshly placed.)

Watch out on the street car tracks especially when it starts to rain or even when spitting, that seems to be the worst as the tracks seem to bring up the oils that come off the streetcar wheels directly or when they oil the intersections to prevent the squealing noise you get when they make turns.

I was just wondering if anyone has pursued action against the city on these as street car tracks are known hazards for all two wheel vehicles.
